DOCTORS EMBRACE BARIATRIC SURGERY AS EFFECTIVE TREATMENT FOR DIABETES
Fifty international scientific and medical experts have issued a "consensus statement" declaring that bariatric surgery should be considered a treatment option for patients with Type 2 diabetes, even if they are not extremely obese.

Duodenal Switch
Reserved for patients with serious weight-related issues, the duodenal switch is a complex surgical option involving the removal of a large portion of the stomach.
  • During the procedure, a segment of the small intestine is divided and rearranged.
  • Most (85%) of the stomach is permanently removed.
  • A major advantage of this procedure is that the pylorus remains intact.

How does bariatric surgery help get rid of sleep apnea?

The vast majority of patients will either be able to decrease the pressure settings on their CPAP machine, or will be able to get rid of their CPAP machine altogether. And more importantly, we have observed that almost all of our patients report a significant improvement in their sleep and quality of life.

 Terra
Terra's Story
Total weight loss: 119 lbs

"When you go from 'living to eat' to 'eating to live' it can be hard, but it is so worth it in the end."

Before surgery, Terra couldn't run and play with her kids like she wanted to."My feet, back and hips hurt all the time," she said, "to the point of tears at the end of the day." She decided to have weight loss surgery because she was tired of letting her weight hold her back from life.

"My life has changed so much since the surgery" said Terra. "I can play with my kids. And I can fit in a booth at a restaurant without fear of getting stuck!"
