AIA National Announces 2012 Legislative Agenda
Four Legislative Priorities Focus Exclusively on Creating Jobs in Design and Construction Sector

 

AIA unveiled an ambitious 2012 legislative agenda that has creating jobs in the hard-hit design and construction industry as its top priority. The "Plan for Economic Growth" concentrates its efforts on solving the four key economic challenges facing the profession: Removing Barriers to Private Sector Lending; Saving Energy, Creating Jobs; Helping Small Firms Grow; Revitalizing America's Neighborhoods.

Changes to Continuing Education Requirements
 
On December 9, The AIA Board of Directors  voted to modify the AIA's calendar year continuing education requirement. Per year, AIA members will be required to complete 12 hours of health, safety and welfare (HSW) education, an increase from previous requirement of 8 HSW. The AIA Board will re-evaluate the sustainable design (SD) requirement in 2012. The new HSW requirement goes into effect in January 2012 and AIA members should fulfill their total 18 hours of continuing education during the calendar year.

Local named to ICC Consensus Committee 
Local AIA Louisiana member Kevin Harris, FAIA, was appointed as a member of the International
Code Council (ICC) Consensus Committee on Residential High Wind for the development of the 2013 edition of the upcoming Standard for Residential Construction in High-Wind Regions (ICC 600).
