AIA/ACEC Form Joint DHH Committee

This committee will initiate recommendations to the LA Professional Engineers Licensing Board regarding P.E. Seal requirements on incidental plumbing and mechanical plans for schools, T-buildings and similar facilities. AIA Louisiana is requesting the establishment of thresholds relative to when a P.E. Seal is required.

AIA Louisiana met with DHH officials earlier in the year regarding the backlog of projects under review. Although DHH considered employing private contractors , the State Fire Marshal's Office is now reviewing plans and drawings for DHH Office of Public Health.

The Louisiana chapters of AIA and the American Council of Engineering Companies have formed a joint committee with the Department of Health and Hospitals-Office of Public Health Engineering Services section.

Prior law, effective September 1, 1994, defined "ADAAG" as the Americans with Disabilities Act Accessibility Guidelines. New law defines "ADA Standards" as the 2010 Americans with Disabilities Act Standards for Accessible Design. Beginning October 1, 2011 the Office of the State Fire Marshal will begin implementing the New Accessibility Standards. To order free copies of the Accessibility Standards form the United States Access Boards click here.

To Facilitate these changes, a new, updated, and more user-friendly electronic reporting system will be available through My NCARB on the Council's website on April 5. On April 3, 2012 , the current reporting system will be shut down and will be inaccessible as the data is converted to IDP 2.0. AIALA Joins In Challenging E-Verify Law

AIA Louisiana has joined AGC and other industry groups in challenging ACT 376 of the 2011 regular session of the Legislature. AGC is warning that the new Louisiana law requiring citizenship verification of all employees of firms seeking public contracts could lead to mayhem in public contracting.

The law, which does not take effect until Jan. 1, 2012, requires those seeking public contracts to certify they have registered all employees through E-Verify, a federal system used to determine citizenship.

AGC is challenging the legality of the law and has subsequently filed a lawsuit in Baton Rouge state court. AIA Louisiana and other industry groups have agreed to file amicus, friends of the court, briefs with the court in an effort to help AGC contest ACT 376.
