We've tallied the ballots, and UHOP was the winner by far, receiving over 75% of the votes!

Happy Spring, Huskies!

As apartment hunting season continues we would like to provide you with some tips for picking an apartment that fits your lifestyle. The reasonable rent prices in Mission Hill may be very attractive but will you be able to leave your apartment earlier in order to make it to class on time? How about in the snow, rain, and heat? If the Fenway area is more tailored to your lifestyle will you need a roommate in order to afford rent? Have you talked to any of your friends about living together? It may be helpful for you to remember that often times best friends are not the best roommates.

Another important factor to consider when deciding on where to live off campus are your new neighbors. If you are planning to live in the Fenway area and your apartment is in a building that holds mostly students, could the building become too loud?
Springtime in Mission Hill!

And if you're living with non-students, will they be angry when you're too loud? Not everyone around NU is a student, and it's important to consider the lifestyles around when choosing your apartment.

If you have any other questions or would like any more pointers to consider regarding moving off campus please contact us at ca@neu.edu!

Realtor/Landlord Surveys Are Now Available

By Chris Geddes

Off Campus Student Services and SGA are proud to announce the availability of the Northeastern Realtor/Landlord survey. Throughout the spring, current off campus students were surveyed on how well their landlords and realtors performed tasks essential to finding

and living in an off campus residence. The survey will be available in the Off Campus Student Services office (226 Curry Student Center) beginning the week of March 28th, 2011.

report card

Other colleges and universities in the greater Boston area will also use and distribute similar surveys to their students in the coming months to create a city wide database. The data collected will be made available to all member colleges and universities and will allow students to find "preferred" landlords and realtors as reviewed by fellow off campus residents. Keep on the lookout for more results as our office and other institutions look to send another round of surveys in Fall 2011.

The Office of Off Campus Student Services is available to answer any questions regarding the survey process and please feel free to come to 226 Curry Student Center for a copy of the results.

CA Spotlight: Terry Liao

Who am I: Kai Hsiang Liao (aka "Terry"), a middler majoring in Marketing. I'm a 2nd year off-campus student living on Westland Ave. in the Fenway. I am on the Executive Board for Northeastern Taiwanese Student Association, and I love playing Volleyball and Basketball!

Why I'm a CA: Originally when I signed up to join the team, I wanted to learn more about living off campus in general (the ins and outs/the tips and tricks). Now that I have been a Community Ambassador for a year, I enjoy how great it feels when my friends come to me for advice and knowledge when moving off campus, or finding new apartments.

My CA advice: Do your homework when looking at off campus apartments! Realistically, you are going to have to live there for a whole year so you really want to find a good roommate and a comfortable place to live in that meets all of your expectations/requirements.
