If you have clothes or household items that you want to get rid of, don't just throw them away! Reduce trash by donating your clean, resalable clothes or household items to nonprofit organizations and help others in need! Many organizations offer door-to-door pick-up services, who turn your unwanted items into cash to support charities that help children and people in need. Check out some of these local nonprofit organizations:

Dear Roaming Husky

 Take a Break!

"My neighbors moved out recently and I picked up the couch they left outside. Ever since, I've had bedbugs in my apartment. My landlord has exterminated them, but the problem still persists. What should I do?"
- Bugged-out Husky

Dear Bugged-out
You should call the Inspectional Services Department immediately at 617-535-5300 and have them document the situation, and help you resolve it. During move-in and move-out, students tend to leave unwanted furniture on the curbside, which increases the chance of spreading bedbugs. Next time, leave that cushy couch on the curb!"

Good luck,
Your Roaming Husky

Are you ready to move?

 living room
Before moving out, you should give your landlord 30 days notice, even if your lease is expiring. You can also request your landlord's acknowledgement in writing for your records. Make an appointment with your landlord to jointly inspect the apartment so that you both agree on the condition - which determines whether or not your security deposit will be returned to you. This way you can move out without any burden!

You should also consider reserving your moving truck now, since August and September are big moving months. You don't want to wait too long or you may find yourself out of luck!

 Summer BBQ Safety
 jkjk
Summer is in full swing, and many people want to enjoy a nice barbecue gathering in their off campus apartments. We would just like to remind you that Boston has very strict grilling regulations;  to avoid finding yourself in a sticky situation, follow these rules to ensure that you have a safe and enjoyable barbecue!

1. Always locate a barbecue away from any combustible wall.

2. Place grill on a level surface away from low hanging trees, deck railings, or sidings.

3. Set up grill in an open area away from buildings dry leaves, or brush. Be aware of wind blowing sparks.

4. No grills are allowed on rooftops, balconies, porches, or patios.

5. No gas or charcoal grills may be used on fire escapes or fire escape balconies under any circumstances.

6. It's a good idea to keep a fire extinguisher within handy reach.

7. Do not wear loose clothing and watch for dangling apron strings and shirt tails.

8. NEVER leave children or pets unattended near a hot grill.

To read more about  safety regulations for different types of grills, check out the City of Boston's Barbecue Safety Flyer HERE.
