Words From Jerry
"In today's competitive environment, business must maintain technical superiority. This is especially true for small businesses. Until now, Information Technology resources for small businesses have been scarce and expensive. Tips

You probably already understand the importance of a UPS (Uninterruptable Power Supply) battery backup. But did you know that your unit needs some TLC from time to time?

To get the best performance form your battery, make sure that you don't overload it. Doing so could cause shorter battery run time, less longevity of the battery, and additional power problems with the devises attached to it.  Most UPS' have software to help you monitor this.

Typically a battery needs to be replaced every 18-24 months, sometimes even sooner. If you see the warning light come on or hear a sharp alarm coming from the unit, it's time to replace ASAP! Many batteries cost less than the unit itself and are worth the investment.

If you have constant power problems then you want to replace the unit completely. A Networks Plus technician can help find the right solution for you!

New Technologies Can Help Your Business

You have probably heard the terms "Windows Mobile","iPhone", "Palm Pilot", or "Smartphone". You know the technology savvy neighbor has one, but what is it going to do for you and your business?

One huge advantage is that these devices integrate cell phones, computers, and internet access into a nice "palm" sized device. You can have instant e-mail communications with your customers and office no matter where you are, as long as you have a cell signal. Many software companies are recognizing the potential of these devices and are making mobile versions of their software.  Adobe has created Acrobat Reader so you can read PDF files, and Microsoft has Office Mobile so you can open Office files.  PowerPoint works on mobile devices also.  Many other software manufactures are making mobile applications. You can also search the internet, listen to music, and watch videos.   If you're a doctor, lawyer,  salesperson, etc., your office can set appointments into your calendar, allowing you to see your schedule and get updates in real time. You can also schedule an appointment on your device and the office would see it, so you avoid double bookings.

EMTs can get PDR information, police departments can take a picture of a suspect and match them to criminal database.  Electricians can pull information about systems that they are repairing, inventory assets can be tracked and updated using these devices. The possibilites are endless, and the benefits to your business are excellent.

Right now this market is very hot. Research shows 62% of Americans have some experience with mobile access to digital data and information via their cell phone or PDA. Microsoft estimates that by 2009, 50% of this market will be using software built by them. They realized that businesses require enterprise level access, the ability to communicate with servers, and data security. If you or your employee loses a phone, you will be able to wipe the data so that it doesn't fall into the wrong hands.

If this is something that you are interested in, let us know. We will come up with the right solution for your needs and help intergrate this into your current business model, keeping you at the forefront of new technologies and making your business as efficient and advanced as possible.
