| Greetings!
Thank goodness - the last vestiges of winter are for all intents and purposes gone. Buds are appearing on trees and you know it's finally Spring when you see pussy willows, daffodils and other spring-like pots at your local grocery store. As the sun shines into our rooms for longer periods, we gradually switch from winter hibernation mode to thoughts of incorporating the outdoors into our daily activities. For me spring also brings inspiration and a desire for a seasonal tweaking of my living spaces - often small and inexpensive updates, but very satisfying just the same. Spring cleaning is also a time honoured tradition that became popular during the 19th century prior to the invention of the vacuum cleaner. It's a time when it is warm enough to open windows and doors, but not warm enough for insects. Right now at Rousseau's we are focusing on our Spring Warehouse Sale, where we have many beautiful items at fabulous savings waiting to go to good (and clean, we hope) homes!

Rousseau's Projects
Model Suite - Ryerson Commons
Rousseau's is very excited to show you our newest decorating endeavour. We were asked to decorate the model suite "Faraday" at Ryerson Commons; an active "empty-nester" condominium development in Cobourg Ontario. The goal of the decorating team was to demonstrate that downsizing to condo living does not mean that you have to down-grade your decorating style. Taking inspiration from the nearby lake and beach, the colour scheme of soft blues and neutrals plays off the pieces of mirrored furniture and reflected light, like the sun off the water. Each component of the decorating scheme was chosen to enhance the spacious floor plan with sleek-styled furniture, appropriate to the scale of condo living. The expansive windows are enhanced with Dupioni silk and linen draperies and wool area rugs define the open-concept living/dining room. Distinctive lighting and the warmth of an electric fireplace gives you the feeling of "being home"

Rousseau's Trends (Each month we make you aware of trends and directions in the furniture and interior design industry)
DESIGNER INTRODUCTIONS - WHAT'S NEW
We are thrilled to be introducing fresh collections designed by extremely talented industry designers. Atlanta designer, Suzanne Kasler, is the newest designer at Hickory Chair and brings classic style with a heavy emphasis on French flavour, collected from around Europe. We met Suzanne at Hickory Chair's showroom in North Carolina and admired her beautiful diamond necklace in a quatrefoil shape (literally translated - four leaves). Apparently the quatrefoil motif is a favourite of Suzanne's, and it cropped up intriguingly on many pieces of furniture in the showroom. The attached photo is one piece we couldn't resist - we bought it in a new paint finish ' Birch'. Also evident in the collection are couture inspired details like grosgrain ribbon trim and custom hardware.
Annie Selke Home is another innovative and creative new furniture collection. In 1993. Annie started Pine Cone Hill her bedding company, as she puts it, at her dining table at 'Turkey Hill' her country house in Massachusetts.
Her next division Dash & Albert (named after her dogs) consists of a colourful, practical and well priced compilation of area rugs in wool, cotton and the becoming famous indoor/outdoor "Rain & Shine" category in bullet proof polypropylene. Now Annie Selke Home completes the vision with whimsy and colour.
Robert Allen Fabrics is part of our Spring Home Event we have on loan from the RA showroom lengths of luxurious, stunning fabrics by Larry Laslo. A prominent American interior designer, Larry Laslo has an amazing list of projects to his name. The iconic New York department store, Bergdorf Goodman, was completely remodelled under his direction a number of years ago and still retains most of his design; a real feat in fast moving Manhattan. His product collections include Frederick Cooper Lamps, Mikasa, Royal Limoges dinnerware, and now home textiles. Along with the entire line from Robert Allen Designs, these textiles are available to order in April at up to 30% off as part of our fabric and drapery sale.
DRAPERY SALE INFORMATION 'You'd never go out half dressed'
For us, nothing else finishes a room quite like draperies, softening hard edges and adding a final splash of colour. Without draperies, a room can look, well, naked - and lack warmth, privacy, and personality. If you're searching for exquisite fabrics and fine tailoring, you'll be pleased by what you find at Rousseau's -especially if you'd prefer to spend something short of a fortune. We're delighted to offer our new Everyday Drapery Program of over 400 fabrics through April 28th, starting at $599 a pair.
