Wishing all of you a New Year full of hope, creativity and hard work!!
This is what we must have (hope), tap (creativity) and do (work hard) to address the great challenges facing our families, communities, towns, cities, counties, states and nation, and the world as a whole. SFEAP wishes you and your families all the best as 2008's days dwindle and 2009's promise many uncertainties.
We hope you have found the news and announcements about the intersections between art and environmental advocacy we have sent you, since beginning this email service in June, both edifying and helpful. We would like to hear from you about this, so please drop us a line or two (mjaagerstoun@sfeap.org) and let us know what interested you most of what we have sent along, and what topics you would like to see covered in the new year. If you haven't had a chance to see all the communications, you can browse through them on the archive.
We have been very busy (and productive, we believe!!) in 2008, our first year of actual operation, and won't burden you with lots of information on our comings and goings. Just to give you an idea of the reactions we are getting from some of our supporters, read on below. We are very proud to have the endorsement of these organizations and individuals.
We realize you have many obligations as 2008 ends, and that many worthy groups are suffering as we all are individually and as families because of the economic situation that is afflicting the world. We would therefore be very touched, and grateful beyond measure, if you felt moved to support SFEAP, in even a small way. We have just sent in our 501 c 3 application to the IRS, and cannot as yet offer you a tax deduction, so if you do feel moved to help SFEAP, please do so through our fiscal agent--greenmuseum.org--so you may get a tax deduction. We are very proud that greenmuseum has supported us in this way. They get a small fee for helping us give our contributors a tax break through their nonprofit status. And well deserved!! Be sure to indicate on your contribution that it should go to SFEAP.

Looking forward to the challenges, and opportunities, of 2009, we send you our deepest thanks for your enthusiasm for SFEAP and our goals.
All the best to you and yours,
Mary Jo Aagerstoun Founder/President, SFEAP, Inc. mjaagerstoun@sfeap.org

WHO is saying WHAT about SFEAP??
"To date only a few ecoart projects have taken place in South Florida, although the region is perfect for such work due to the fragile Everglades, overdevelopment and the strength of our arts community. [SFEAP's] work in advocacy, education and art making will be critical to our future" -- Rena Blades, CEO, Palm Beach County Cultural Council.
"SFEAP's efforts to catalyze the emergence of a strong community of home-grown ecoartists through specific educational programs and residencies will be a major contribution to the region's cultural identity." -- Nancy Marshall, President, The Arthur R. Marshall Foundation.
"SFEAP's mission of promoting a strong ecoart presence in South Florida is very much in concert with Keep Palm Beach County, Inc.'s goals. In fact, KPBCB has entered into a partnership with SFEAP to restore an ecoart project called Elders' Cove located in West Palm Beach, Florida, that was damaged by recent hurricanes...We hope to continue to collaborate with SFEAP on future projects." -- Jo Ellen Leisinger, President, Board of Directors, Keep Palm Beach County Beautiful, Inc.
"Dr. Aagerstoun has been working with me and the Martin County Arts Council to develop a strong educational program that will help our environmentally oriented citizens understand how ecoart can be a boon both to the promotion of environmental stewardship and to the cultural enrichment of our county. This program does not stop at education of the public, however. It also will bring nationally and internationally recognized expert ecoartists to work with our local artists-growing our own ecoart professionals." -- Osvaldo Monzon, Deputy Director, The Elliott Museum, Hutchinson Island, Florida
"I have been following SFEAP's development for nearly two years. It was my pleasure to have been a central part of the organization's launch in the Spring of 2007. The progress made since then is impressive. The organization is becoming known far beyond South Florida. I very much look forward to further connections between my institute and the South Florida Environmental Art Project in the future." -- Hildegard Kurt, Ph. D., Founder, und. Institut fur Kunst, Kultur und Zukunfstfahigkeit, Berlin
"SFEAP brought my work to the attention of [a local South Florida municipality] which has resulted in ongoing design and implementation of eco-sustainable public art and public information. I am also aware of several projects catalyzed by SFEAP engaging several artists, educating government and the public and initiating remarkable events and action." -- Michael Singer, South Florida resident artist, Delray Beach, Florida
"As an artist, I have greatly benefited through my association with SFEAP. Through SFEAP I have met many practitioners and fellow ecoartists who have helped grow my career. I am currently collaborating with SFEAP on four major projects. This relatively new organization is having a profound impact on our community, using art and science to engage community in bioremediation." -- Xavier Cortada, South Florida resident artist, Miami, Florida
"The urgency of climate change with its rising sea levels, threats to local water resources and degradation of habitats underscores the timeliness of the appearance of SFEAP. It is not only timely, but also very effective. I can attest to this from my personal experience. The City of West Palm Beach invested substantial funds for environmental public art in the renovation of its largest park, Dreher Park. The work was severely damaged after the 2004 hurricanes. Neither I nor my collaborator, Angelo Ciotti knew of this damage nor that it had not been repaired. SFEAP brought this to our attention, and has worked since, tirelessly, to create a community of stakeholders to repair our work. I have been deeply impressed by the scope and success of SFEAP's outreach efforts, their success at raising funds and most impressed at their awareness that the local community must be central." -- Jackie Brookner, ecoartist, New York City
