Greetings!

The United Way team recently hosted its annual meeting that was attended by more than 100 people.

At the meeting, we reviewed the last fiscal year in a baseball-themed video.  We also recognized community leaders and voted in new and renewing board members.

You can watch the video and read more about the annual meeting at here.

Until next month,

Fresh Produce Drive at July 21 Downtown C.R. Farmer's Market!

United Way, in partnership with HACAP, will hold a fresh produce drive at the July 21 farmers' market.

Over 37,000 individuals in the United Way of East Central Iowa six-county service area are food insecure. Step by step we can help people.

If you are visiting the July 21 market, please consider buying some extra produce. Then stop by the United Way booth in Greene Square Park to donate it to help people in our own community.  If you have questions about this, please contact Erica Bergfeld.

Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE): "What Happened to You?" over "What's Wrong With You?"

"ACEs cover all of our United Way areas of work. It's something we need to look at, the more we can understand about ACEs and how that impacts a person  the more we can get ahead of the issue," United Way's Eugenia Vavra says.

Based on an ACEs Study, an estimated 32,000 children have at least two or more ACEs within United Way's six-county service area of Benton, Cedar, Iowa, Jones Linn and Washington counties.

A United Way Volunteer Health Solutions Team identified ACEs as a "Breakthrough Area" that crosses all areas of our work within Education, Financial Stability and Health and is considered a root cause for many social conditions that United Way is trying to impact with its community investments.
