Greetings!

You are invited to our annual meeting on June 19. As you can guess by the picture we are planning a baseball theme.
While we are reviewing the last fiscal year it'll be a very different way of doing that. We'll tell you more at 7:30 a.m. on June 19.
It's free to attend but please click here to register, so we know how many hot dogs - excuse us - breakfast, we need to order.
Until next month, Your United Way Team

United Way creates Whipple Legacy Circle
Last month, we hosted our first Legacy Dinner and announced a new goal for our endowment - $5 million by 2014 - and a new opportunity for estate planning - the Whipple Legacy Circle. William and Gayle Whipple are Tocqueville donors, even after their deaths. As a United Way supporter for more than seven decades, William was resolute. "I am very much in favor of United Way's work." This new society honors individuals who endow their annual leadership gift. For more please contact

Almost 1 in 4 working Iowa families unable to meet basic needs, new report shows
United Way continues to partner with the community to help families become financially stable. How many households are unable to meet their basic needs? The Iowa Policy Project released an update to the "Cost of Living in Iowa" report. The report indicates that almost 23 percent of Iowa's working households are currently earning incomes below what is required to meet their basic needs.
While a variety of household types struggle to make ends meet, nearly 3 out of 4 single parent households are falling short of what is needed. United Way and its community partners are working with low-income households, with a specific emphasis on single parents. We are working to help low-income households access their basic needs, stabilize, build work-related skills and increase their income to a sustainable level.
