United Way of East Central Iowa's 12th Annual Day of Caring will be held on Wednesday, May 12, 2010. Day of Caring brings volunteers from local companies and organizations together to complete service projects at area non-profit agencies.

Last year, nearly 1,200 volunteers worked on over 100 different projects. There are a variety
of service projects volunteers may participate in such as landscaping, painting, window washing, sorting donated food, and more.

Volunteers Give Back for Ticket to Howie Day Concert

10k logoLooking to get involved in the community? Volunteer 10 hours between now and April 2010, and earn yourself a free ticket to see Howie Day perform at the Iowa Memorial Union (IMU) in Iowa City on Sunday, April 11!

The 10,000 Hours Show (10K) is a year-round effort to engage young people in volunteer service that culminates in a free concert for which the only admission is 10 or more volunteer hours to local nonprofits. You must have all your hours verified and completed before you pick up your concert ticket, no exceptions. In order to accomplish this, we recommend that people have all of their volunteer hours completed 2-3 weeks before the concert date to allow nonprofits to verify your hours online. Check the 10K website closer to the concert date for more specific hour submission deadlines. Click here for more details!
Volunteers Needed for
Letter Carriers Food Drive
 food
On Saturday, May 8, letter carriers and volunteers will collect food for our local community during the annual National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) Food Drive. The NALC Food Drive occurs across the nation and has been significant in alleviating hunger in America. It is the largest one-day food drive in the Greater Cedar Rapids area.

You can participate by placing a bag of non-perishable food items (no glass items, please) by your mailbox on May 8, and it will be picked up by your letter carrier or a volunteer. You can also help out by volunteering to sort food into boxes at one of the drop site locations. For more information about volunteering, please contact Sarah Olson at sholson@uweci.org or (319) 398-5372, ext 16.

"
I really appreciate the ease of working with Corridor Volunteers. I appreciate that the volunteer can get a good feel for what our mission is before actually committing to a specific activity. Corridor Volunteers gives me the opportunity to reply to volunteers with an up-to-date
e-mail on the activities that are most in need at the moment.
I feel it is more personal than just saying "click the link and volunteer", even though I may never meet each volunteer. Volunteers can get the information they need on the website and decide if we are a fit for them without any pressure."
