RSVP for United Way's Campaign Celebration

Please join us for United Way of East Central Iowa's Campaign Celebration on Thursday, January 14, 5:00-6:30 pm, at the Kirkwood Center for Continuing Education, 7725 Kirkwood Blvd SW in Cedar Rapids. "Reaching Out, Rising Above" Program begins at 5:30 pm with Campaign Co-Chairs Beth Malicki, KCRG-TV9 and Dennis Jordan, Priority One. Event host is GE Capital.
 
At the Campaign Celebration, United Way will announce the total amount contributed during the 2009 campaign. In addition, many individuals and organizations will be recognized for their generosity and hard work during the campaign. Awards will also be presented to business who have contributed over one half million dollars and one million dollars. The 2009 Pacesetter Companies include GE Capital and Rockwell Collins.

Student Leaders to be Honored at MLK Luncheon

MLK 2009

On Monday, January 18, United Way of East Central Iowa will honor 20 area students at the annual "Remembering Martin" Luncheon. The ceremony will be held in partnership with the Rotary Club of Cedar Rapids, at the Crowne Plaza Five Seasons Hotel, 350 First Avenue NE, from 11:30 am-1:00 pm.

The 24th annual luncheon commemorates the life and vision of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., by recognizing student leaders who demonstrate his honorable characteristics through their volunteer work, school attendance and positive behavior. One student from each middle school and high school in the Cedar Rapids area is selected for this award by their school administration.

Keynote speaker for the event is Renee Sneitzer, J.D. Judge Sneitzer presently presides as an Administrative Law Judge for the Iowa Medical and Classification Center where she conducts hearings and rendering decisions in both Institution and Community Based Corrections settings for the State of Iowa.

Day of Caring Brown Bag Lunch
Are you a nonprofit organization looking for volunteers this spring? Interested in learning more about United Way's Day of Caring? Bring your lunch and participate in the Day of Caring Informational Session on Thursday, February 11, Noon-1pm at United Way of East Central Iowa, 1030 5th Avenue SE. We will include tips on preparing for the Day of Caring, project ideas for your organization, discuss elements of a successful volunteer experience, and hear from agencies about their personal success stories. Agencies will also receive the necessary paperwork to fill out regarding their volunteer project. If you would like to attend, RSVP to Sue Driscoll at 398-5372, ext. 22 or sdriscoll@uweci.org.
