Small Businesses Eligible For Cash

Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg is offering a cash incentive to businesses and charities that employ a young person, as announced last month. Before the economic slowdown, many businesses showed a marked preference to recruit experienced people even to entry level jobs , to the detriment of the young people without experience.
The qualifying business will receive £2,200 and is eligible for more cash afterwards. The scheme has been introduced to support the 'NEETs'- young people not in training or employment.

eFM's Interim Management
Service

eFM is pleased to announce that a new business development manager Andrew Keech has now joined the eFM team. Andrew, who qualified as an accountant with Ernst & Young, has had previous roles including Divisional Manager of Michael Page Recruitment and Regional Finance Director for Granada group. He will be focusing on managing and building the Interim Management arm of the business. Welcome Andrew!

The harsh economic climate has not made it any easier for small companies to deal with fluctuating demand for products and services as well as unplanned absences. In addition to parental leave entitlements which were reviewed last year, employers have to deal with a multitude of challenges from increased employment law obligations, new agency workers regulations, reduction in credit lines, possible changes to business rates, cash flow problems and other limited resources. These liabilities have a significant impact on employment costs in a climate where companies want to keep overheads low.

As a cost-effective solution, companies can access specialist interim support from eFM Interims who may only be required for a few days a week/ a month. This provides the right levels of expertise at the right price without the need for any major financial investment or recruitment costs.

In 2012, consumer demand continues to flatline, pressures on cashflow remain on the increase, legislation and liabilities have new cost implications and there are threats that the Eurozone crises could worsen the economic climate. While measures like 'Quantitative Easing' and 'Merlin' have been introduced to stimulate the underlying 'real' economy, the impact may yet to be felt for some time to come. SMEs have to take on a direct responsibility to review their business and assess their core offering holistically. They also have to detect and repair cash leaks within their organisation which prevent them from maintaining a healthy bottom line. Here are some spring clean tips to enable you achieve a more effective and successful operation. Click on the 'take action' button below for more information.

Tips For Pitching For VC Funding

 eFM Network

Acquiring funding through Venture Capital can be a long and tedious process especially in the current climate. There are alternative sources of funding to be considered especially when there is the possibility of an eventual sale as founding directors realise very little profit from a final sale of a VC funded business even with successful, profitable companies. There are professional angels, former entrepreneurs and seed funders that could provide alternative routes to VC funding. It may be worthwhile reassessing the need to go to a VC especially if a high level of support, involvement and activity is required from the funder or if the possible exit upsides are given away to the VC through unexpected poor trading performance. If the business however has the potential for exponential growth and really needs a Venture Capitalist, here are some great tips to help with your pitch.
