Greetings!

We have just completed the first class in our new series, "The Heart of the Matter: It all matters."  To everybody who was in class, I want to thank you for being there and for your participation. I thought the discussion was good. I really enjoyed your comments; they add greater depth to the topic under discussion.

I have put the proposed timetable of classes further down and to the left in this newsletter. As we finish each of the classes, I will post the PowerPoint slides (in pdf format) for you. I hope you find them useful.

You can also find the list of classes on the bookmark that accompanies the series. (If you do not yet have a bookmark, please speak to either me, or Jennie, and we will make sure you get one.)
Trust in the LORD
Proverbs 3:1-8

I think most of us are familiar with at least a few of the verses in the Book of Proverbs. Many of these short, pithy sayings have become part of our everyday language. We know we should not treat them all as being absolutes, but, rather, should see them as useful maxims for our lives.

Proverbs 26:4-5 give us interesting teaching if we do not try to apply each verse literally. Answer not a fool according to his folly ... (26:4). Answer a fool according to his folly ... (26:5). So, which should we do? Reading each verse in context will, of course, give us a clearer understanding.

Our text from the class is probably familiar to everyone. Solomon is speaking to his son. I will not go over each of the verses here, but you can easily see how he builds on his instructions. I used only the first eight verses of chapter three, but we could as easily have continued down through verse twelve. Then the progression becomes:
  1. Do not forget my teaching
  2. Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you
  3. Trust in the LORD with all your heart
  4. Be not wise in your own eyes
  5. Honor the LORD with your wealth
  6. Do not despise the LORD's discipline
Next Week's Lesson

Next week, our class title is "God's Plan for Man." Our initial text will be taken from Genesis chapter 3. How did God start out with man, and what man did to mess things up. I invite you to join us as we continue looking at The Heart of the Matter.

Thank you for your continued interest in God's Word and His plan for your life. I pray that you may find peace with God every day of your life.
