Prayer Quilt
Ministry

quilt

The Prayer Quilt Ministry will begin it's Fall meetings starting Monday, September 8th at 10:00 am in the
Parish Hall.

Laps quilts are made by the ladies to be given to comfort those in the hospital, hospice, shut-ins, a sick family member or someone who is grieving over the loss of a loved one. Each of these quilts are prayed over as they are being made and given a special blessing by Fr. Dove.

The quilters are also embarking on a project to decorate the walls of the Great Room in the Parish Hall with quilts.

If you are interested in joining  this special ministry, please contact Virigia Doyle at (281) 579-7637.

If you know of some who would be blessed by receiving one of these quilts, please contact Fr. Mifflin.

Dear friends,
Fr. Mifflin Dove
Do you believe in angels? I do! The scriptures mention angels in numerous places in both the Old and New Testaments. Angels announced the birth of our Lord Jesus at Christmas, and angels also proclaimed his resurrection at Easter.

The Scriptures say there are angels and archangels. According to the Book of Revelation, the archangel St. St. MichaelMichael led an army of angels in a war in heaven between the forces of God and the forces of the Evil One. Of course, St. Michael and his angels were triumphant, and the Evil One was cast out of heaven, by the will of God. See Revelation 12:7-12.

The Feast of St. Michael and All Angels is celebrated on September 29th, each year. We will mark it at our midweek Eucharist on September 24th at 6:30 p.m.

The fall season is beginning. Children are returning to school, and hopefully soon, cold fronts will come our way and bring us some relief from the long Texas summer heat.

This is my favorite time of year, from September through December. I can't say for sure why, but I always feel more spiritually uplifted in the cooler months.

This is the season where we typically see 80% of our church growth for a given year. We are certain to have many newcomers and visitors in this season, and I encourage all of you to continue your friendly welcomes to those newer faces among us.

Be sure to read about all of the things we are going to be doing this fall. New things are coming. We are celebrating our 50th anniversary in Katy in October!
Operation Fix-Up Forum and Kick-Off is Planned for Sunday, Sept. 7th at 9:15 a.m.
God at Work Sign  What is Operation Fix-Up? It is an opportunity for us to renovate and improve our Church building and some other things on our campus.

The Quin Foundation approved a grant of up to $25,000, if we are willing to pledge that amount among our membership over a period of two years. With at least $50k, we can make some wonderful improvements to our Church building and worship space, making it look fresh and new to the glory of God.

Some of the items in Operation Fix-Up would be to:
  • Improve the acoustics in our parish hall, which is like an echo chamber right now.
  • Add a new playground to our campus, showing that we are a child-friendly, child-safe congregation.
  • Renovate the inside of the Church building to make our narthex more roomy and inviting, as well as recarpeting, repainting and doing some rearranging inside the church to make it even better.

Starting in September, we will be asking our members to support this great project with a pledge over two years. This would be in addition to the regular giving to support our daily mission and ministry. When that time comes, please prayerfully consider what you might offer to help us fix up God's place.

Please plan to come to an informational forum about this on Sunday, September 7th, starting at 9:15 a.m. This will be your opportunity to hear firsthand about what is being proposed, and you can ask questions or give feedback on what we are looking to do.

Here is an excellent piece of scripture to show the spirit of what we are trying to do: 2 Chronicles 24:8-14.
Acolyte Commissioning set for Sunday, September 14th at the 10:30 a.m. Service
Acolytes We are so blessed to have new young people joining the ranks of our very important acolyte ministry.

On Sept. 14th at the 10:30 a.m. service, Fr. Dove will commission and recommission a number of young people. We will have all of them vested and participating in the service, and we will present them with brand new acolyte crosses as they are blessed by Fr. Dove.

On Tuesday, Sept. 2nd from 6:30-8:00 p.m., there will be a pizza party for the acolytes and some more training as we prepare for the big event on the 14th. Please contact our acolyte director Mandy Taylor at (281) 793-1618 or dandymanders@gmail.com to let her know you can be there.

EYC logo The Youth of St. Paul's (Jr. High and High School) continue meeting each Wednesday evening from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. They meet in the Parish Hall for dinner followed by a brief program/activity in the Youth Room. Special activities such as bowling, rock climbing, laser tag, lock-ins, and retreats are scheduled periodically. Adult volunteers to help with meals or participating in meetings/events are welcome and invited. If you are interested in helping out with our youth ministry, please contact Jim Busch at 281-392-4320.
LAY MINISTERS NEEDED
Lay Ministry Now that we are planning for fall, think about how you could serve the Lord and St. Paul's by becoming a lector, worship leader or chalice bearer on Sunday morning. It is not hard and the lift that it gives your spirit is wonderful. We just had an acolyte class and now we need people to step up and help with the lay ministers. Both services could use help but the 10:30 service is really in need of some new help. If you are interested, please email:

Joyce Davis at joycdavis@gmail.com or
John Devine at enived@earthlink.net,

or call either one of us or talk to us at church. You can also contact Fr. Dove. Please pray about your call to the lay ministry and say "Yes! I will give it a try"! Remember, learning new activities keep the brain healthy.

DOK Installation
DOK Logo
Our chapter will be installing Virginia Doyle as a new member on Sunday, October 5 during the 10:30 service.

The Daughters of the King is an Order for women who are communicants of the Episcopal Church, or churches in communion with it, or churches who are in the Historic Episcopate. Members undertake a Rule of Life, incorportating the Rule of Prayer and the Rule of Service. By reaffirmation of the promises made at Confirmation, a Daughter pledges herself to a life-long program of prayer, service and evangelism, dedicated to the spread of Christ's Kingdom and the strengthening of the spiritual life of her parish.

Our Daughters of the King group meets on the third Sunday of each month between services. You are invited to attend a meeting and learn more about us. Our next meeting will be September 17, at 9:15 am - we meet in the Bridal room in the Parish Hall.
Cub Scout Fundraiser
will benefit the church!

Ryan (8) and Brandon (6) Brashier will be selling popcorn for Cub Scouts and father, Philip, has pledged to match all orders up to $500 with a contribution to the general operating fund of St. Paul's. The Cub Scouts are trying to build solid young men and they run a quality program for the young men up to 5th grade.  They need every ounce of help that can get. You will also have an opportunity to make a $25 donation for popcorn to be sent to our service men and women overseas!

All this will be happening on Sunday, September 28th - so watch for Ryan and Brandon to be all decked out in their uniforms!
Blessing of the Animals set for the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi - October 4th at 6:00 p.m.

Windows We all love our pets, and what a great opportunity to give thanks to God for our fury and not-so-fury loved ones!

Mark your calendar for Saturday, Oct. 4th at 6:00 p.m. when Fr. Dove will bless the animals in the parish courtyard. Fr. Dove says that if it breathes, he will bless it! Refreshments for people and pets will be served after the service.
New Office Hours!
Clock
The office will now be open from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Monday through Thursday of each week starting in September.

The office will be closed on Labor Day, Sept. 1st.
Thank you for taking the time to read The Epistle! We hope this has been helpful information. As always, please let us know if you have any questions or comments.
Blessings to you!
