Dear friends,

Fr. Mifflin DoveA major feast day in August (the 6th) is the Feast of the Transfiguration, commemorating the amazing mountaintop experience Jesus had while witnessed by Peter, James and John. You can read about this in either Matthew 17:1-13; Mark 9:2-13; or Luke 9:28-36.

TransfigurationThis was a turning point in Jesus's ministry. After spending a couple of years teaching, preaching and healing people, it was time for him to turn his face toward Jerusalem to face the Cross and offer himself as the perfect sacrifice for our sins.

This event on the mountain was a sign of the glory to come. Moses, the lawgiver, and Elijah, the great prophet, spoke with Jesus and offered him encouragement. Even God the Father spoke from above, affirming his only begotten Son.

Peter, James and John saw a glimpse of the Kingdom of God that day, and it had a long lasting impact on their lives. Peter mentions it in one of his letters in 2 Peter 1:16-18.

We will celebrate this feast at our midweek Eucharist on Wednesday, August 6th at 6:30 p.m., giving thanks to God for the gift of his Son to the world.
Acolyte Gathering Planned for Sunday the 17th
AcolytesMandy Taylor is our new acolyte director, and she is excited to host our 2008 acolyte training gathering on Sunday, August 17th starting at Noon. Lunch will be provided for those who attend, and we should be done by no later than 2:00 p.m.

This is the event for those who would like to become acolytes, and this is also for our current acolytes as well. Please let us know if you are coming. Candidates must be old enough to carry processional torches. If you plan to attend, please notify Fr. Dove at miffdove@gmail.com.

On Sunday, September 14th during the 10:30 a.m. service, we will have a commissioning of all of our acolytes in a beefed up service. Special gifts will be given to all of our acolytes on that day.

Quin Foundation Approves Matching Grant of $25k if We Raise as Much or More for
Operation Fix-Up.
God at Work Sign What is Operation Fix-Up? It is an opportunity for us to renovate and improve our Church building and some other things on our campus.

The Quin Foundation approved a grant of up to $25,000, if we are willing to pledge that amount among our membership over a period of two years. With at least $50k, we can make some wonderful improvements to our Church building and worship space, making it look fresh and new to the glory of God.

Some of the items in Operation Fix-Up will be to improve the acoustics in our parish hall, which is like an echo chamber right now. We will add a new playground to our campus, showing that we are a child-friendly, child-safe congregation. We will do work inside of the Church building to make our narthex more roomy and inviting, as well as recarpeting, repainting and doing some rearranging inside the church to make it even better.

Starting in September, we will be asking our members to support this great project with a pledge over two years. This would be in addition to the regular giving to support our daily mission and ministry. When that time comes, please prayerfully consider what you might offer to help us fix up God's place.

Here is an excellent piece of scripture to show the spirit of what we are trying to do: 2 Chronicles 24:8-14.
