Volunteer Spotlight
Eric Quinnell

Despite the rainy days during the Outdoor Kids program, volunteer Eric Quinnell did not hesitate to move forward and ensure the participants enjoyed a day full of fun outdoor activities. Present every Saturday the program took place, Eric willingly supported the activities by moving chairs around, cooking, teaching the children about archery and other activities, and cleaning up. “No job was too hard for this gentleman,” said Mona Izquierdo, director of education.

From appropriate techniques to safety requirements, Eric covered the basic principles of archery in an engaging, enjoyable environment. “While teaching archery or setting up events may not immediately alter these children’s lives, it does provide an extraordinary learning experience for them,” Eric said. “I view life as ultimately the sum of small events and experiences, so I hope that my volunteering may at least allow some of their early experiences to be positive—perhaps that's all it takes to change someone's future.”

Eric has earned the respect of the children by paying respect to them. His dedication and loyalty to the mission of El Buen has won him the admiration of staff, parents and children. Thanks, Eric!

Community Partner Spotlight The Dell Foundation

El Buen Samaritano Episcopal Mission recently received funding from the Dell Foundation in support of its En Forma y En Familia program (In Shape, Among Family).

The grant for $50,000, over the period of two years, will allow El Buen Samaritano to help 130 children and their families become fit and healthy through this program.

En Forma y En Familia is an enhanced version of El Buen’s SummerFun with Born to Run and Family Health and Fitness programs. At the request of the participants, El Buen Samaritano will take the primary focus of those programs and expand it to include the entire family while adding mental health counseling, which will guide them through the necessary behavior modifications to lead a healthy life. The program is scheduled to begin in September.

Committed to contributing significantly to the quality of life in communities where Dell employees live and work, the mission of the Dell Foundation has greatly impacted the lives of many through its partnership with El Buen Samaritano. El Buen Samaritano is grateful to be able to impact the health of Austin children and their familes through the faithful generosity of the Dell Foundation.
