Our Community Partners Come in all Shapes and Sizes |
|
Thanks to the generosity of pre-kindergarten students and staff at All Saints Episcopal Church, more than 50 children at El Buen Samaritano will be able to celebrate their birthday this year.
El Buen Samaritano's Social Services will distribute the beautiful and festive gift bags full of cake mix, icing mix, candles and gift cards to children that would otherwise not have the opportunity to celebrate their birthday.
El Buen is thankful for the loving kindness of community partners such as the students and staff of All Saints Episcopal Church early-childhood education program. |

Join us in Welcoming the new Addition to the El Buen Family! |
Morgan Salari, CLC Teaching Assistant
After only two months since her start date at El Buen, Morgan's passion for the mission of El Buen is made evident by her smile as you walk into the Child Learning Center.
"I love coming to work and interacting with the children," Morgan said. "There is honestly no other place I would rather be."
Prior to joining the staff of El Buen, Morgan taught in the Ready, Set, Teach Program of Crockett High School for two years. She is currently a freshman at Texas State University and plans to be an Algebra teacher when she graduates. |

| Does your employer
match your charitable donations or volunteerism? |
|
Many employers match donations to charitable organizations for their employees, retirees and family members. Employer matching gifts can double or even triple your donation to El Buen Samaritano. To initiate a matching gift, check with your employer's personnel or human resources department.
If the employer uses a Matching Gift form, please complete and send it to: El Buen Samaritano Episcopal Mission, Fund Development, 7000 Woodhue Drive, Austin, TX 78745.
Many employers also encourage their employees to give back to the communities in which they live. Please contact us if you believe that your employer sponsors a Volunteerism Pays Program which encourages employees to get involved in charitable organizations that matter in their communities by making donations to these organizations on their behalf for the time they spend as a volunteer. | |

Volunteers Plant Seeds of Hope National Volunteer Week |
|
Every month, we take this opportunity to spotlight one of our many volunteers. With National Volunteer Week quickly approaching, this month, we would like to take the opportunity to thank each and every one of our volunteers that has generously offered their gifts of time, talent and treasure to ensure the mission of El Buen Samaritano is kept alive and thriving. Be it through teaching adult learners the ins and outs of the English language, caring for the medical health of the sick or distributing the necessary nutritional resources to put food on the table of the less fortunate; our volunteers are the backbone of our programs and services and give life to the mission of El Buen. In the last 12 months, 221 education volunteers, 75 food pantry volunteers, 29 health care volunteers, eight health educators and 150 annual event volunteers stepped into the premises of El Buen Samaritano with the only desire to provide a hand up to those who came through the doors of El Buen, demonstrating they don't expect a hand-out. It is those volunteers who constantly plant seeds of hope in our clients, instilling in them the confidence they need to face the world every day they leave El Buen Samaritano.
El Buen Samaritano is grateful to all its volunteers for planting seeds of hope and for exemplifying the virtues of the Good Samaritan. For information on National Volunteer Week activities at El Buen, click here. |
Community Partner Spotlight Austin Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure |
|
The Austin Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure recently awarded nearly $50,000 to El Buen Samaritano to enhance its Una Decisión Inteligente (An Intelligent Decision) Breast Health Education Program and increase its impact on the community. The program will now have a diagnostic navigator to escort Hispanic women in Travis and Williamson County through a continuum of breast cancer education, screening, diagnosis and treatment services. El Buen's Una Decisión Inteligente Breast Health Education Program is a culturally appropriate and sensitive breast health education outreach project designed to remove cultural and linguistic barriers faced throughout the entire continuum of breast health care and increase access to breast health information and services to women and men living in neighborhoods with high poverty rates. The increased grant will allow El Buen Samaritano to reach nearly 1,600 women, providing breast health education and breast self-examination classes; administer pre and post-tests, provide mammogram referrals and provide free diagnostic mammograms and patient navigation from the time of diagnostic procedure until conclusion of treatment. El Buen Samaritano is grateful to be able to positively affect the health of hundreds of low-income Hispanic women through its partnership with the Austin Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure. |
