Does It Really Matter If Teens Never Read The Bible?
|
It is a legitimate question. You do realize that many if not most of the teens in church youth groups do not read the Bible on their own. I think we have figured out that teenagers can go to church, be involved in youth group and never read the Bible but they can still turn out pretty good!
Think about it. If a Christian teenager goes to church regularly but never reads the Bible, could he not still "make it" in life. I mean, I have known many Christian teens who just "went to church" and that seemed to be enough to keep them out of jail, out of school suspensions and even out of trouble with mom and dad. They are what we call "good kids." They make good grades, play sports, take music lessons and help out at home. Isn't that "good enough?" They don't smoke, do drugs or lose their purity. Isn't that "good enough?"
I guess the question is this. Do we want to influence our teens to be good or do we want them to be godly? Do we want them to know the rituals of the Christian life or do we want them to experience a relationship with their God? Do we want them to blend in or stand out? Do we want them to be frustrated and bored with church or fired up and burdened for the needs of others?
But what if the Bible is too hard for today's teenager to understand? Hey, if they can understand Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, the Internet, the computer, video games, and all the technology around them, I really believe they can get the message God has for them in the Bible.
But it is a lot easier for teens to develop a healthy relationship with the Bible if they have a plan to follow. The High Impact Teen Journal has five different Bible reading plans to choose from. If you don't introduce your teens to the High Impact Teen Journal, please take the initiative to introduce them to a good plan for Bible reading.
