Man, Do We Need Men?
I am told that 80% of the boys in the Indianapolis Detention Center do not have a father figure at home.
On Saturday, August 9 a team of Chaplains planned a conference at the Indianapolis Detention Center called Man Up. The day was filled with sessions and workshops on the Biblical model of manhood. I was honored to be a part of it by leading a session on A Man's Code of Conduct.
Several Christian leaders from the Indianapolis area led various workshops including Devon McDonald, former Indianapolis Colt and Notre Dame football player and Alphonso Bailey, former USA Amateur Boxing Team Member and former Professional boxer.
Each month brings new relationships and ministry opportunities. I have begun a new Thursday night Bible Study taking the Man Up theme of Biblical manhood. In my last session one teen boy said, "I want to be the man God wants me to be but it will be hard when I get back home because my mom is addicted to cocaine." Another boy asked how to move on given the fact his dad was killed not long ago. I just know that God has the power to change the lives of these young men. I truly believe this with all my heart.
Thank you for your prayers as I minister weekly to youth in the inner city. Pray for a new ministry opportunity I have to help recruit and train approximately 100 men to mentor 100 teens at the detention center. Also, pray for a new Man Up Spiritual Journal I am developing to be used in various inner city ministries.
