hitbook Sometimes Wisdom Living Makes No Sense

God tells us to live according to wisdom. He instructs us to be wise in our choices, how we raise our kids and what we do with our time. But to truly be a follower of Christ we have to realize that wisdom living and following God doesn't even make sense. Let me explain what I mean. It makes no sense and seems very unwise to run toward a giant with a slingshot and a stone. It makes absolutely no sense to expect the waters of the Red Sea to part so God's children can escape their enemy. You see, sometimes following God challenges what we might call human wisdom. There is no contradiction between what God calls living by faith, living wisely and responding to God's unique plans for our life.

Three years ago I embarked on a faith journey of my own. After serving many years as a local church youth pastor I came to a place of absolute clarity that God wanted something different for my family and me. He led me to leave the security of a guaranteed salary and follow His new plan. For seven years I was privileged to serve as leader of Youth Imperative, a ministry focused on ministering to youth leaders. In 2007 the Lord moved me from that ministry and toward the next step in His plan. A few months of searching and praying has led to the realization of a new ministry. Many of you receiving my email ministry updates are aware of my new ministry to troubled youth. It has developed in just a few short months and I am still amazed to see new doors of ministry opening each week. I love the opportunity to connect with teens and families who are part of the un-reached people of our city.

Through this journey God has led me in ways that sometimes didn't seem to make sense. Jennifer and I realized part of the plan was to move our children from Christian school to public school, leave a guaranteed income, be willing to sell our home if needed and make sacrifices that were far greater than we could ever have imagined. Some days have been so dark and so uncertain it is almost impossible to explain. One thing has been so very clear. As I have searched daily to see God's hand and seek His face, He has been a refuge, a rock and a friend that sticks closer than a brother. God has brought people in to our life we would have never met. He has led us out of our comfort zone and allowed us to see greater needs in the world around us. There are lives that have already been touched and forever changed.

Over the past couple months God has been greatly moving to supply our needs. The time between my former ministry to youth leaders and my new ministry to inner city youth was a time of searching and a very difficult time financially. Now we face some greater days ahead but there is a challenge to overcome some serious shortfalls financially. Recently a few people have asked what needs we have or if all those needs are covered. It's hard to ask for help but truthfully we have some catching up to do and are asking God to move on people's heart to help. I feel like I have faced a giant, God told me to run toward it and not away from it, and I need some help with a few stones to slay it.

Thank you for praying for us in our faith journey. If you feel God leading you to have a part in it, we would be truly grateful and I know God would bless you for it.
