From IN to TN I am writing this message today from the hills of Tennessee! Three weeks ago today I received a phone call from Dave Sekura. Dave is the camp director at Fort Bluff Camp in Dayton, TN and has served at the camp for nearly twenty years. Dave and I have been great friends since college. We roomed together at one point and worked most summers together for Thomas Nelson Publishers in their summer sales division earning money to pay for college. We were best men in each other's weddings and the connections go on and on. When the phone rang that Monday morning Dave was calling to share with me his future vision and goals for the ministry of Fort Bluff Camp and the NACA (National Association of Christian Athletes). Dave had been in a meeting over the previous weekend with Mike and Naomi Crain, the founders of Fort Bluff Camp. The discussion turned to the need for a new staff member and Lord seemed to be directing them to talk with the Turners.
After some time talking about the camp ministry and what God has been doing in the life of the Turners I shared with Dave what I called my dream job. I talked about a ministry where I could be involved with teenagers, encourage and equip youth leaders, pursue the development of resources that could be used to help those in ministry. The more we talked the more it seemed possible that my desires and the needs of the camp were a good fit.
After a trip to TN with my entire family and time back home to talk it over and pray for God's direction, the Lord has directed us to move from Indianapolis, IN to Dayton, TN! The position I will fill here is assistant camp director and Chaplain of the National Association of Christian Athletes.
I started in the office this morning in TN. Over the next few months, I will be travelling to TN to work at the camp office Monday through Thursday on a weekly basis. I will be back with the family in Indiana each week on Friday and back in TN on Monday. We will move to TN as a family after our oldest daughter graduates high school in May.
We will be working to bring High Impact Teens in to the ministry of Fort Bluff Camp and the potential to expand HIT Ministries is tremendous.
Pray for our family as I work in TN during the week and travel to IN on the weekends. Pray for Jennifer and our children (Bethany 12th, Jillian 9th and Brett 6th) as they manage things at home without dad a few days each week. Pray for safety as I travel each week round trip from TN to IN. Pray for fruit in our ministry as we see hundreds of teens here in the next few weeks.
If you want to reach me our number here at the camp is... 800-251-4027. We have free dvds and brochures available. Call us and we'll gladly mail one to you!
If you are looking for a place for teen camp or junior camp this summer we still have room available in three camps. Junior Camp - June 16-20, 2008 Teen Camp I - July 7-11, 2008 Teen Camp II - July 14-18, 2008
Our brand new Lakehaven Lodge opens this spring with a capacity of over 275! This new lodge will create many new ministry opportunities for the camp ministry of Fort Bluff Camp and the NACA.
