Kindergarten Cuts Loose With Mother Goose

On Wednesday, March 17, Mrs. Pound's and Mr. T's Kindergarten class put on their annual production of "Cutting Loose with Mother Goose." This production is highly anticipated each year, and older students were heard many times reminiscing about which character they played when they were a part of this special show. Pictured above are Sophia Rivera (left) as she recites Humpty Dumpty. Dylan Lincoln and Alex Miller (right) played the roles of Queen and King. Congratulations on a wonderful afternoon!

Dr. Jane Goodall to Return to RGS in April
Internationally renowned author, activist, and scientist Dr. Jane Goodall will be coming to RGS on Friday, April 23. Dr. Goodall was last at RGS in 2006, when she talked to our students about her student-led environmental organization "Roots and Shoots." At her visit in April, Dr. Goodall will meet with all of our students and share her latest work with them. We are deeply grateful to the Andrew and Sydney Davis Foundation for sponsoring Dr. Goodall's visit. Stay tuned for more information about her visit in forthcoming newsletters! |

Book Fair Arrives on April 19
The RGS Book Fair will be held on Monday, April 19, through Thursday, April 22, from 8:00 a.m. through 3:30 p.m., in the Media Center. As usual, the book fair will offer an amazing selection of books. Specially selected samples of wonderful hardback and paperback books from the best of new releases and old favorites will be on display to order. Parents, you are encouraged to attend the fair at any time and are especially invited to accompany your child during his/her scheduled class visits. (Flyers will go home with children notifying parents of the classroom visit schedule. This schedule will be posted in areas around the school and in the classroom as well.) In addition, there is a special "Parents Only" morning on Tuesday, April 20, from 8:00 to 9:30, with coffee and other treats provided. Prepaid orders need to be turned in by the end of the day on Thursday, April 22, and orders will be filled within approximately three weeks time. Take advantage of this opportunity to support the school and fulfill some of your child's spring and summer reading needs at the same time! Hope to see you there!
5th Graders (Left to Right) read during a library visit: George Stevens, Shintaro Ochiai, Tate Birk, Patrick Boyd, Ryder Brooks, Luc Simard-Halm, Sebastian Montesinos, Max Rivera
 | Birthday Book ProgramAs you may know, RGS has an active Birthday Book Program through which parents may choose to donate a book to the Media Center in honor of their child's birthday. The child's name is written on a special bookplate placed inside the book, and he or she is invited to be the first to check out that book. Parents who wish to participate in the program usually purchase their child's birthday book from designated titles in the book fair. It is a great opportunity to honor your child's birthday and to enrich the library's collection in a lasting and personal way! |

Santa Fe Youth Orchestra Visits
On Friday, March 26, the Santa Fe Youth Symphony Association Orchestra, led by director Ben Klemme, paid a visit to RGS to play pieces from around the world. Comprised of high school musicians, we heard pieces from Norway, Italy, Australia, and other nations. RGS students offered their knowledge of the different instrument families and watched as the orchestra performed flawlessly.

RGS Stars

Congratulations to the RGS community who combined to donate over $2,400 to benefit the Hardt Haven Childrens Orphanage in Ghana. At Friday's All-School-Meeting, the results of November's Jump-a-thon/Jog-a-thon were announced. Inspired by Cate D'Amboise's and Sam Brill's trip to Africa in the summer of 2009, the fifth grade class held their annual fundraiser to support the orphanage with which Cate and Sam volunteered. The grand total amounted to $2,424! Pictured above is the fifth grade class with Cate and Sam. Congratulations again to all who participated and donated to this wonderful, fun fundraiser.
