Croquet Court Opens
2010 Season Underway
 
The 2010 Woodlawn Croquet season officially began with the opening of the court on Wednesday, April 21st when Sturgis Haskins and Elaine Dow played the first game. The Woodlawn Croquet Program is open to all.  Golf croquet is played every Tuesday afternoon starting May 18th.  Two major tournaments are scheduled this year- the Maine/NH State Tournament starting on June 23rd and the Woodlawn Downeast Classic in mid-September. NEWS: Woodlawn Farmers' Market
Real People ~ Real Food ~ Real Good
 
The Woodlawn Farmers' Market will open to the public on Mothers' Day, Sunday, May 9th from 11 am to 2 pm and continue every Sunday thereafter. Seventeen vendors will have a
range of items that will help make your Mothers' Day complete.  Among the early season offerings are fresh eggs, prepared foods, baked goods, fresh and smoked meats, smoked salmon, cheese cakes, and a wide variety of craft items including jewelry, scarves, pottery, tote bags, and wool lined and hand tied comforters.  Woodlawn is an ideal setting for a farmers' market.  Guests can enjoy the peaceful setting, take a hike on the trails, have a picnic on our tables, stroll through the gardens, or take a tour of the house.  And on Mothers' Day all moms receive a free tour of Woodlawn!
Spring Clean Up Day A Success
Over 40 people volunteer
 
On Saturday, May 1, more than 40 people turned out for a very successful Spring Clean Up Day.  A crew of volunteers led by Jon Marshal, including members of the organization J.A.C.K. (Justice for Autism with Community and Kindness), spread wood chips and built new bog bridges on the trails.  Volunteers also helped

Spring Lecture Series Continues
2 more lectures scheduled in May
 
The Woodlawn Spring Lectures Series continues this May.  On Thursday, May 13th, at 7 p.m., Gretchen F. Faulkner, director of the Hudson Museum, will give an illustrated talk on the museum's history and collection of over 8,000 ethnographic and archaeological objects.  Participants are welcome to bring a Native American art object for identification. On May 27th
at 7 pm, food historian and author Sandy Oliver will give a talk entitled "From Peas on a Knife to Peas on a Fork: Towards Genteel Dining in the 1800s." Our earliest settlers ate with knife and spoon and often shared food from communal bowls. Sandy will explore how we came to use forks, individual place settings, and all the trappings of the Victorian dining table. Woodlawn's Spring Lectures Series is free of charge, however donations to are greatly appreciated.  Please call Woodlawn at 667-8671 or email [email protected] to reserve a seat.
