What we've been up to... MRP's December happenings
Oregon Travelcenter - MRP Design Group is currently developing an 18,000 square foot travelcenter near Pendleton Oregon. The site will feature Auto, RV, and Truck fueling. In addition, the facility will include various trucker amenities like showers, laundry, lounge, and internet access. The site will also include a McDonalds restaurant with drive thru. The construction should be complete by the fourth quarter of 2008.
Buffalos Express - MRP Design Group is currently working on multiple locations for Buffalos Southwest Café. The locations will offer a walk through order service with many of the items currently available in a full service Buffalos restaurant. The stores will fit in a 1800 square foot space and feature a distinctive southwest look.
Aaron Rents - MRP is finishing complete prototypical construction drawings for three different store sizes. The drawings include coordination with a metal building shell supplied by a metal building manufacturer.

Elf Yourself
Check out this Office Max holiday website where you can upload your photos to make your own family of dancing elves. I did it, then let my 4 year old daughter watch it and she got SUCH a kick out of watching herself, as an elf, dancing! www.elfyourself.com

New Year, New Look! Start 2008 off right
As you're planning for the new year, it's a great time to consider change! If you are having to postpone Grand Openings, and change orders are costing you money, consider trying a new design firm. With the right experience, not only should they be able to minimize those costly change orders, while allowing you to open on-time, but they can also offer some new design ideas which could give you an edge in your market! Be sure to select a firm with a lot of experience doing YOUR type of project, and check references! |
Multiple Retails Quite a concept....
Where have the days of one business on one property gone? Here at MRP, we have more and more clients moving towards multiple retails - one building with room for a convenience store plus two or more spaces to lease out. And for good reason! The additional income not only helps with the property purchase by providing an immediate income from the lease-space, but it also works together to drive traffic through each retail operation. Sites with convenience stores, fast food, and other retail facilities actually help each other by providing exposure to a more diverse number of customers. The next time you are considering a property purchase, I suggest giving this idea a good look, it may really help the site pay off.

NACS Show A showstopper
Last month we exhibited in the 2007 NACS Show (Nat'l Assoc. of Convenience Stores). Our company has done this several times, but while it was NACS first time in Atlanta, it was also MY first time exhibiting at NACS, and wow! It was enormous! I have been to the Georgia World Congress Center for a lot of big events, but this surpassed them all by miles. Seemed like anyone who's anyone was there (in the c-store world anyway). We're currently working on proposals for several great leads that came from our presence there. I was exhausted after it was over, but sure did enjoy it. Thank you to those of you who visited us and contacted us through the NACS Show!
I really think Candid Camera should have been following me that week. There are tens of thousands of people there, representing everything from car wash systems, to food and candy, to beverages (both alcoholic and non) to magazines. It's quite an array of people. I went to one booth thinking they were selling gum, and asked for pink for my daughter, and once they handed it to me I realized it was rolling papers, not gum! But not to worry, there were only a hundred or two candy booths there! An Icebreakers rep gave me a little orange box with some sort of Orange flavor packets in it. I went to pick up my 4 year old daughter from school that day and said "Guess what I have for you?", as I pulled a flavor packet out of the orange box, she shouted "cheese!" I laughed, then looked at it and realized it DID look just like a 1/2" x 1/2" Kraft singles cheese slice.

Keep Your Lines Open! What about the phones?
Business devotes a lot of treasure and talent to backing up servers and data and creating redundant networks. But what about the phone system? Statistics show that over 93% of business is transacted over the phone! And when the phone system goes down, so does the business. 3Com has a product which solves this problem by providing redundant business continuity, keeping your phone lines open so that communication continues and your business can operate at the speed of business.
