SPECIAL SERIES FOR TEENS
Fusion Teen Fashion ShowThe Fashion Apprentice

A partnership program of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library and Children's Theatre of Charlotte in which teens will have the chance to "upcycle" clothing to design a garment and compete for the opportunity to receive valuable apprenticeship training with the Children's Theatre Charlotte Costume Shop.

The workshop series:

Beginning the second week of June, teens will be given the opportunity to attend a series of workshops to be held every other week in the Loft at ImaginOn, led by professional costume designers. Each workshop gives aspiring designers a foundational skill set in  fashion design. The classes also give teens a skill set they can immediately put to use by "upcycling" an article of clothing. Workshop dates are as follows:

June 14 Workshop 1 Inspired Style

June 28 Workshop 2 Design Time

July 11 Workshop 3 Dress It Up!

The fashion show and apprenticeship:

Whether or not they attend the workshops, teens will be invited to participate in the Fashion Show Challenge on July 21, and compete for an apprenticeship in the Children's Theatre Costume Shop from July 30 to August 10. During the apprenticeship, teens will design articles of clothing to be worn on stage by the actors in an upcoming CTC production and then showcased as part of a display in ImaginOn.

The apprenticeship aims to expose teens to foundational skills needed to pursue a career in fashion design; to help teens understand and develop a process for approaching a project, and to give teens the opportunity to collaborate with others including their peers, community members, and professionals in the fashion and design industry.
