Spring Arts Festival Celebrates & Shares The ArtsFriday's Spring Arts Festival showcased talent and beauty from every area of the arts at Pacific Ridge School. Starting at noon, students and faculty toured the campus, where every half hour they could view one of at least seven different arts extravaganzas. Faculty and students played music, eighth graders presented their art-integrated 1920s projects, dancers performed tap, hip hop, and musical theater, thespians performed scenes, young artists made silk screen posters, and everyone was invited to contribute to a sidewalk mural, among other activities. The creative energy was palpable - as one student put it, "Wow, the arts really do surround us at Pacific Ridge!" A Greek chorus parades through campus.
Orchestra members play. Dancers tap away.

Art Students Head to MiresBall & MCASD Last Thursday, Advanced Graphic Design students went into the field to experience a design agency and a graphic art exhibition by local artist John Baldessari. At their first stop, MiresBall Design in San Diego, students met with Creative Director John Ball, who discussed topics from the design process, to producing photo shoots, to meeting with clients, to working collaboratively and making deadlines. Students also received a tour of the work space, giving them an opportunity to appreciate the architectural and design details that went into the newly-renovated office. At the Museum of Contemporary Art in La Jolla, students viewed a print collection of over 100 works by John Baldessari. The visit followed on the heels of silk screening work in class, allowing students a keen appreciation of Baldessari's skill in creating a finished piece.
Face to Faith Video Conferences Continue Over the past week, Pacific Ridge students have participated in three Face to Faith conferences with high school students around the world: at Duchess High School in the United Kingdom, at Mercedes College in Australia, and at Jumeirah College in Abu Dhabi. In all three conversations, students talked about the relationship between their faith or beliefs and their attitudes toward wealth, poverty, and charity. Pacific Ridge students especially enjoyed the opportunity to discuss their service learning projects. They also showed great dedication to participating in the conversations; in order to accommodate time zones, two video conferences took place at 7 a.m., and one at 4:30 p.m.
