Medieval Feast Ends in Plague On Monday, April 16th, 9th-grade students donned Medieval costumes and took on corresponding historical roles as they dined Medieval-style (that is, without utensils) on a feast reminiscent of the period. The event coincided with the end of a Medieval unit in history, giving students a rich context for their activities, and marks the beginning of a unit on Canterbury Tales in English class. The students' celebration came to a halt when a simulated plague hit campus and students, using dice, bags of beans, and knowledge from recent work in biology and Algebra 2, worked out just how few of them would survive. Ask your ninth grader how he or she fared in the plague!

Saturday's Night in Neon dance, sponsored by the Project Dance Service Learning Group, raised $1,497.01, giving the group a total of about $2,350 to donate as a dance scholarship to a local family. The group's next project will be to offer dance workshops so that local Brownie troops can earn their dance badges.
Juniors Sasha Bechtler-Levin and Katie Nardo were both 10th-Grade Seed Grant finalists last year. Their project, AED Easy as 1-2-3, aimed to make AEDs (Automated External Defibrillators) available to schools in San Diego in order to save lives. The two used award money to purchase an AED that they then donated to Heritage Digital Academy in Escondido.
