New & Noteworthy

2011-2012 Faculty/Parent Education Series
Again this year, members of the Pacific Ridge School faculty and staff will gather with up to 30 parents at a time for Harkness discussions about education and adolescents.  Before each session, participants will be given an article to read and/or a video clip to view.  At the meeting, parents and Pacific Ridge faculty and staff members will meet as one large group, break up into two smaller Harkness groups, and then reconvene to determine a list of takeaways from the discussion.  Those conclusions will then be shared with the rest of the school community.

Only 120 total spaces are available, so be sure to rank your order of session preference via survey monkey by clicking here

Curricular Adventures

On October 12th, students in Middle East History and Diplomacy heard Dr. Edie Eger, an Auschwitz survivor, speak about her experience in the Holocaust.  She discussed Auschwitz, the death of her parents, the final death marches as Nazis retreated, but most importantly, the power of the human spirit to persevere.  Dr. Eger's presentation, and a study of the Holocaust, framed the students' current study of the birth of Israel.  Click here for more information on Dr. Eger.

On October 13th, Advanced Photography students visited Oceanside Pier for an early morning  field trip.  Students tested both their artistic and their people skills by shooting portraits of surfers, joggers, fishermen, policemen, and tourists.

Service Learning in the Field

On October 13th, students in the ARC Middle School Service Learning Group contributed to a gardening project at The ARC of San Diego.
