Greetings!
It's been 10 years since we opened United Services of America. With all that happened that year, we had no idea how this company would grow and mature. Today, we are proud to say United Services is thriving. The company was just named to the 2011 Inc. 5000, the magazine's annual list of the fastest growing private companies in the United States. There are more details about this amazing news below. As we kick into the third quarter, we are adding 10 new buildings to our service roster, most of them schools in Stamford, Westchester and NYC. We are also thrilled to welcome Mario Tarantino to the management team at Affineco; Mario is an old friend and well known to many of you. Even as our business grows, my daughter, Sofia, is growing by leaps and bounds. We had a wonderful summer as I hope all of you did. Enjoy our latest newsletter and we wish all of you a prosperous season.
Sincerely, Paul Senecal President United Services of America

United Makes List of America's Fastest-Growing Companies
By Matt Ellis

What does United Services of America have in common with Spirit Airlines, Vizio and Honest Tea? All have been named to the 2011 Inc. 5000, a prestigious ranking of the fastest-growing private companies in America. This is the fifth year Inc. magazine has compiled the list; previous honorees include Zappos, Oracle and Zipcar.
"This is a tremendous honor for United Services and it validates the hard work of our entire team," said United Services President Paul Senecal. "We have strategically plotted our growth since starting the business in 2001, and it's definitely paid off."

Mario Tarantino Joins Affineco as Chief Administrative Officer By Susan Minichiello
On July 18, Mario Tarantino stepped into his role as Chief Administrative Officer for Affineco. With 35 years of property management and cleaning and maintenance experience, plus an extensive history working with BOMA, Tarantino brings a wealth of invaluable skills and knowledge that will no doubt serve Affineco well.
Affineco has experienced significant growth in recent years across all divisions, and with such progress comes new challenges. United Services President Paul Senecal and Premier Maintenance President Michael Diamond recognized a need to regulate overall administrative issues, so they created the position of Chief Administrative Officer to address that need. Tarantino has known both Senecal and Diamond for years. He and Senecal worked together many years ago, and Tarantino got to know Diamond through BOMA. When Senecal and Diamond created the new position, they approached Tarantino because they believed his background and experience would be a good fit.

Lanartco Performance Tip of the Month
There are ways to preempt awkward communication. It is easy to get swamped and overlook following up on important communication. However, there are risks involved when we leave unspoken messages hanging. This can cause serious awkwardness when we come into contact with any person we left in the dark. We could face emotions, unspoken feelings and even an unwillingness to cooperate. How can we determine when our voice needs to be heard to avoid all this? Ask ourselves if we were the key contact person involved in the project and take ownership of our role; review our email trails to see who was the last person to respond and act on any pending questions; and think carefully about how we would feel if we were the one waiting for feedback but it never came. No one enjoys baring bad news. But, no one likes sharing an awkward moment either, right? For more from Jill Diamond, see her blog post, The Question Remains, and add your comments or questions. Jill Diamond is a communication coach and the Founder/President of Lanartco, Inc. Read more about Jill here.
