Year in Review
- Participant Shirts: In its second year, we have given over 100 t-shirts away to children (and parents) who participated in a 5k. We also give credit to children who run or walk in the 1 mile Run for the Rolls that precedes the Chelsea Fair Parade each summer.
- Car Seat Clinics: With 3 clinics scheduled between March and September, we checked about 50 car seats. Not only did almost every car seat and booster require significant adjustment, but one family credits the clinic with a safe outcome when their car was involved in a minor car accident. We appreciate our partners at the University of Michigan's Pediatric Trauma Program who staff the clinics. They'll be back with us in 2010.
- Fall Field Trip: We had a great time with the families who joined us for our 4th annual field trip to Tantre Farm, an organic farm located in Grass Lake. This year we went in the fall and saw how much the farm changes from season to season.
- First Annual New Parents Lunch: For the first time this fall, we hosted a lunch for parents (and grandparents) with a baby born in 2009. Thanks to the 18 families who joined us at the Treehouse for lunch, conversation, and information from speakers Amy Teddy and Dot Tetreault. Judging by the noise level, everyone had a great time!
- Coffee with the Doctor: Dr Moore and Michelle McCarthy from K-9 Home Schooling met with parents at the TreeHouse to talk about the right pet for your family.
- State Award for Immunizations: Our wonderful nurses received recognition for the work they do ensuring that our immunization program is the best that it can be. As Deanna Phillips, RN explained to the Chelsea Standard, having a good immunization program involves more than giving the right shot at the right time, but also includes proper storage, education, and record-keeping.
- Misha and Laura participate in 3 Day Breast Cancer Walk: Catching the Moore Pediatrics spirit of emphasizing healthy habits and supporting the community, Misha and Laura's team raised over $15,000 for the Susan G Komen Foundation when they walked 60 miles in 3 days in Chicago this summer.
- New Families: We have welcomed 136 new families who joined our practice in 2009.

5 Easy Ways to Boost the Nutritional Quality of what your child is eating
- Make sure that breakfast includes a protein such as eggs, milk, cheese, dairy, meat, or peanut butter.
- Pack only fruit or a vegetable for snack. When they are hungry and have no other choice, your child will eat the snack provided.
- Put out a plate of veggies or fruit while you are cooking dinner. It doesn't matter if they ruin their appetite for dinner when they are snacking on slices of apple, edamame, or carrots.
- Give your child a muliti-vitamin once a day. With the new daily recommendations for vitamin D, it is hard for those of us living in Michigan to get the minimum dose.
- Model the eating habits you want your child to adopt whether it's sitting down when you eat, reaching for a fruit or vegetable yourself when snacking, or taking a multi-viatamin too.

Financial Hardship Resources
We have compiled the following list of resources that we hope will help anyone who finds themselves in difficult circumstances.
1. MI Child/Healthy Kids: You can visit the Michigan Department of Community Health's website to learn more about health coverage and other services. State assistance is available for low income working families through MI Child and unemployed families through Healthy Kids.
2. VFC program: Moore Pediatrics & Associates participates in the Vaccine For Children (VFC) program through the State Health Department. This program is designed to make vaccines available for uninsured and underinsured children. Through this program, we are able to administer vaccines at our office to children who do not have immunization coverage for a nominal administrative fee. Effective January 1, 2010, the fee is $15 per immunization.
3. Discounted services policy: It is the policy of the practice to extend a discount for services that are paid in full on the same day that services are rendered. Effective, January 19, 2009 the discount has been increased from from 10% to 20%.
4. Payment plans: please contact the office if you need to make arrangements to pay a balance over time. | |
