 E-prescribing has arrived!

We are now using an electronic prescription program called DrFirst "E-Prescribing".  This is a safe, efficient method for fillings prescriptions.  As long as your pharmacy participates with this program, we will now send your prescription electronically to your pharmacy.

As the pharmacies adjust to this new program, you may be told when you arrive at the pharmacy that there is no prescription waiting for you.  If this happens, let them know that the prescription was sent through "E-prescribing" from the Doctor's office.  The pharmacy will need to look in a different system for your prescription.

Thinking of our Troops

Since we began participating last year with Tricare, which is an insurance for military families, we have gotten to know a number of families where one parent is serving overseas, often in Iraq.  We want to acknowledge the double sacrifice these families are making to serve our country: one parent serving overseas to protect our country's interests and the other parent serving by parenting solo for long stretches of time.

Helping Your Child Have a Successful Day

Particularly in the dead of winter when we feel like we haven't seen the sun in a long time, it is more common to look around our child's classroom and see a group of pale, sleepy-eyed, restless children.  This sets up a challenging environment for our children's teachers who are trying to accomplish a great deal in each day.
Here are some reminders of the things we can do as parents to make sure that our children are ready to learn when they get to school:
  • Send them to school with a good night's rest and a healthy breakfast.
  • Put packed backpacks by the door the night before to make departure smoother.
  • Send a healthy snack and/or lunch with your child.
  • Limit screentime and make sure your child has active playtime each day.

 Financial Hardship Resources

We have begun to hear some of our families express concern that they might lose health insurance coverage in 2009.  We have compiled the following list of resources that we hope will help anyone who finds themselves in these circumstances.

1. MI Child/Healthy Kids: You can visit the Michigan Department of Community Health's website to learn more about health coverage and other services.  State assistance is available for low income working families through MI Child and unemployed families through Healthy Kids.

2. VFC program: Moore Pediatrics & Associates participates in the Vaccine For Children (VFC) program through the State Health Department.  This program is designed to make vaccines available for uninsured and underinsured children. Through this program, we are able to administer vaccines at our office to children who do not have immunization coverage for a nominal administrative fee of $10 per immunization.

3. Discounted services policy: It is the policy of the practice to extend a discount for services that are paid in full on the same day that services are rendered.  Effective, January 19, 2009 we are increasing the discount from 10% to 20%.

4. Payment plans: please contact the office if you need to make arrangements to pay a balance over time.

Looking for our class and event schedule?  We're hibernating, but look for car seat clinics, coffees with the doctor, field trips and more in the spring newsletter!
