Week of July 30, 2012
Greetings!
I am just back from attending the International Society of Glass Bead Makers conference up in Bellevue, WA. Every couple of years I go to the conference of another organization to see what they are doing that we should consider for our conferences. I had a great time and returned to the office with some great ideas. Kudos to Kendra Bruno, ISGB's Executive Director, and the ISGB board.
One thing that ISGB does really well is setting up collaborations with other artists. This year one of their exhibitions was "3 x 2," at Facere Jewelry Art Gallery in Seattle. The work was created by collaborative teams of ISGB and Seattle Metals Guild artists, and spirits were running high at the opening on Friday. I spoke with several of the artists and some of them have decided to continue working together on other pieces. A terrific idea and exhibition!
A final reminder from me that tomorrow night at midnight is the deadline to register for our business symposium "Forging Entrepreneurs: Tools and Skills for Business Success." If you want to improve how you run your business or improve your productivity, this is the symposium for you. Only 15 tickets are left! Click here for more information and to register. I hope to see you there.

Quarto Publishing Call for Submissions
Quarto Publishing is currently working on a new jewellery book: 200 Tips, Techniques and Trade Secrets for Jewellery Making, by Xuella Arnold and Sara Withers. It's scheduled to publish autumn 2013.

The piece(s) could be made using an improvised tool, or in the course of making you might have overcome a particular problem. Whatever the story behind the work, they want to hear it to include that along with the piece of jewelry.
For the submission form and further details on how to submit, contact Sarah Bell. Deadline: August 31.
