Week of June 18, 2012
Greetings!
An update about our new symposium Forging Entrepreneurs: Tools and Skills for Business Success: The NC Black team won't be able to participate after all, and we are talking to other artists to replace their technical presentation. Stay tuned to find out who that will be. Click here to see the full lineup of terrific presenters and their topics. Sunday August 26, Pittsburgh, in partnership with the Society for Contemporary Craft. Online registration is open only through July 15. This is an intimate gathering, with a maximum of 100 attendees. Don't wait too long to get a seat. "Forging Entrepreneurs" is open to both members and non-members. Help us spread the word--post this on your blogs, e-newsletters, and websites. Also, last call to take our 2012 conference survey. It was a great conference but there's always room for improvement. Take 10 minutes and let us know your thoughts.

National Think Tank on Craft SNAG President Sue Amendolara and Executive Director Dana Singer participated in a national Think Tank on Craft, June 7-10, at the Touchstone Center for Craft, thanks to generous funding from the Windgate Charitable Foundation.
The Think Tank was the brainchild of Brigitte Martin (one of SNAG's new board members). She partnered with Touchstone and the Society for Contemporary Craft to bring together thirty studio artists, administrators, gallerists, and educators from all contemporary craft media.
Together we tackled a host of topics affecting the future of the field: Selling, Making a Living, Education, Organizations, Marketing, Cooperation & Collaboration, Developing New Audiences, Craft & Social Practice, Political Action, and Branding. We left with specific action items to pursue.
Other SNAG members participating included Jim Bove, Melissa Cameron, Andy Cooperman, Jillian Moore, Michelle Pajak-Reynolds, John and Corliss Rose, Loring Taoka, Mike Holmes and Elizabeth Shypertt of Velvet da Vinci, and the American Craft Council (Chris Amundsen). Click here for more images from the weekend (courtesy of Jim Bove).
Also Adam Kenney, from Touchstone, is one of our presenters at Forging Entrepreneurs in August, speaking on "Diversifying Your Portfolio." |
