Dana Singer, Executive Director
Week of April 16, 2012

Greetings!

This Thursday, April 19, is the deadline to register for the conference at the current rates: $380 for members and $295 for students. On Friday, the rates rise by $30. NEW: Everyone who registers between March 1 and April 19 is automatically entered into a drawing for one free night at the hotel. We will announce the names of two winners before the end of April.

This is week three of our Q&A series with the two candidates running to be the next SNAG President. I can't encourage you enough to read these questions and responses, and vote this year, whether online or at the conference.

Question #3: Having reviewed the Goals and Strategies outlined in SNAG's new five-year strategic plan, and looking at SNAG in terms of what it offers both to its members and to further the field, in what new directions would you guide the organization?

Beginning this week we have profiles of the four people running for the Board of Directors, starting with Brigitte Martin.

Shona Rae

"Superstition" is a juried exhibition of fine jewelry and metal work, open

from April 12-May 26, 2012 at the Toronto gallery Zilberschmuck. For the sixth consecutive year, SNAG is one of many sponsors of the event.

2012 marks the eighth year Zilberschmuck has invited Canadian artists to explore the formal and conceptual ideas behind the meaning of a particular word.

This year the word was "superstition." Jurors Shyon Baumann, University of Toronto associate professor of sociology; award-winning metalsmith Charles Funnell; and jewelry designer Shelly Purdy, reviewed 76 entries from 61 artists from across the country. A number of awards were given out, including Best in Show to SNAG member Shona Rae for her
