Dana Singer, Executive Director
Week of April 9, 2012

Greetings!

This is week two of our Q&A series with the two candidates running to be the next SNAG President.  All six questions we'll be posting on our website came directly from our membership.  I can't encourage you enough to read these questions and responses, and vote this year, whether online or at the conference.  Watch for later announcements about how and when voting will be open.

Question #2: The complaint persists that SNAG does not often enough address the needs of the working studio metalsmith; that SNAG's focus is skewed more towards the interests and concerns of academia. Do you believe SNAG should appeal to and serve the full spectrum of metalsmiths? What does it mean to you for SNAG to be a "Big Tent"? What types of measures would you put before the Board of Directors to remedy this situation? Please touch on all three questions in your response.

Click here to read the responses from John Rose and Renee Zettle-Sterling.

Last week we profiled one of two candidates for the Nominations & Elections Committee, Michael Dale Bernard.  This week we profile the other candidate, Susan Skoczen.

SOFA New York
SOFA NY is coming up April 20-22. As mentioned last week, SNAG is sponsoring a talk by Georg Dobler, and co-sponsoring with
Art Jewelry Forum a lecture about the work of Margaret de Patta.
Georg Dobler
Margaret de Patta

As usual, there are other good lectures in their Salon Lecture Series. Here are just a couple:

"COVET"

Molly Hatch

An illustrated discussion of COVET, a long term project exploring the direct relationship between contemporary artists and historic artworks found in museum collections, inspired by their conversations with curators about content, context, social history and patronage.

Philip Aduatz
"Design 2012: Young Designers Discuss
Concept, Process and Materials" Artists Vivian Beer and Philip Aduatz discuss their work; functional objects that exist between the worlds of design, craft, and sculpture.  Working with innovative new methods and materials and traditional techniques, they challenge traditional labels that categorize furniture, art, and design.
