Week of January 30, 2012

Greetings!

I just read "Predictably Irrational: The Hidden Forces That Shape our Decisions," one of many books in the burgeoning field of "behavioral economics" which looks at the social, cognitive and emotional factors that come into play when people make economic decisions in their lives.

In a series of illuminating and often surprising experiments, the author refutes the common assumption that we behave in fundamentally rational ways. It's written in an engaging style, and he blends everyday experience with his research, explaining how our expectations, emotions, social norms, and other invisible forces quite predictably skew our reasoning abilities.

For those of you who sell your work, person-to-person or online, there are some gems in here.
