Greetings!
As 2011 draws to a close, we'd like to look back at a sampling of SNAG's accomplishments over the past twelve months. It's been quite a year:
- The Seattle conference sponsored by Rio Grande drew a record 1,000 attendees. Highlights included the inaugural Trunk Show Sale, where 60 SNAG members sold $30,500 of work in just two hours; Art Jewelry Forum organized the exhibition "Geography" curated by Mike Holmes and Susan Cummins; SNAG TV; and the Professional Development Seminar.
- Twenty-seven scholarships were awarded to students for the Seattle conference, thanks to support from Todd Reed, Jewelers Mutual Insurance, Barbara Heinrich, Sam Shaw, The Metal Museum, John Rais, Carissa Hussong, Susan Hamlet and many others.
- We launched the digital version of Metalsmith, and each issue is automatically sent to SNAG members.
- We launched "In Production," a new department in Metalsmith devoted to showcasing artists doing production work. A focus on Donna D'Aquino led the way, followed by Deb Karash, Sarah Graham, and Thomas Mann.
- Metalsmith's 2010 Exhibition in Print "Neo-Palatial: A Curatorial Imaginarium," curated by Garth Clark, won a National Gold Ink Award, our seventh consecutive such award.
- Heejin Hwang received the Hoover & Strong Scholarship for a graduate student making production jewelry, administered through our Educational Endowment.
- Charlie Nhung Nguyen and Harry L. Caldwell IV won the SNAG/Hoover & Strong HARMONY™ Jewelry Design Competition in the spring.
Thank you for your ongoing support and involvement in SNAG. We look forward to a terrific 2012 with you, continuing to advance the professional practice of artists, designers, jewelers and metalsmiths through education, innovation, and a vibrant and passionate community.
Wishing you all the best this holiday season,
The SNAG Staff Dana Singer, Executive Director Ellen Laing, Program Manager Tara Jecklin, Operations Manager
