Lafreniere and Pai Competition Winner   
MascotSNAG is a co-sponsor of Lafreniere & Pai Gallery's 8th annual National Jewellery Student Competition Exhibition. The winning submission is a mixed media series by Amanda Memme, a Toronto-based artist. This series comments on the origins and visual aspects of stereotyping in Western society.

Memme is a graduate from George Brown College's Jewellery Arts program and Nova Scotia College of Art and Design's BFA program, majoring in Jewellery Design and Metalsmithing.

"THE BODY ADORNED" Call for Entries

Rebecca BartonJuror Gail M. Brown is looking for images of studio jewelry on the body, photographed on the maker's model of choice, for SNAG's inaugural online exhibition. "THE BODY ADORNED...Dressed and Bedecked"  will explore "adornment as experience" on the landscape of the body. The call for entries is on our website.

Submission deadline is December 9, 2011, through CAFÉ, www.callforentry.org.

Happy Hour Event in Chicago with Chicago Metal Arts Guild
SNAG and the Chicago Metal Arts Guild invite you to a Happy Hour for all our members during SOFA Chicago. Join us at the Center Terrace just off the show floor at Navy Pier for cash bar and complimentary hors d'oeuvres, Friday November 4 at 5:30, after the last lecture of the day. Stop in before you head out to dinner.

Seeking Nominations for Lifetime Achievement Award
LAAThe Lifetime Achievement Award is SNAG's highest honor and is presented to individuals who have made significant contributions to the field of metalsmithing. Selection of the award recipient is made by a committee of SNAG members. The Phoenix conference will be dedicated to the 2012 recipient, with the presentation of the award made there.

Any member may nominate someone for the Lifetime Achievement Award. Nomination packages must include a resume or biography of the nominee and an argument in support of their selection. The package should also include letters of support from at least two other SNAG members.

Nomination packages should be sent to the Lifetime Achievement Award Committee Chair: Beth Ann Gerstein, 175 Newbury Street, Boston, MA 02116.

MAD Event in November: Contemporary Studio Silver
MADSNAG and Metalsmith, in collaboration with The Museum of Arts and Design and The Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths, will be sponsoring a symposium titled "A Focus on Contemporary Studio Silver."

The Goldsmiths CompanyThe event, to be held at the Museum on November 10, will feature illustrated talks by Rosemary Ransome-Wallis, Curator of Collections, the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths, and silver artists Rod Kelly, Jane Short, and Hiroshi Suzuki. For more info go to  www.madmuseum.org.
Images Needed for SNAG Marketing Materials
Executive Director Dana Singer is looking for images of SNAG members at work: in your studio, in your booth at craft shows and fairs, in your gallery, teaching workshops, in the classroom, wherever you work. Selected images will be used in the next SNAG brochure and other marketing materials. Send one top-notch image, 300 dpi, 4" x 6" in size, to  dsinger@snagmetalsmith.org.
