Educational Endowment Scholarship Recipients |
|
SNAG's Educational Endowment Scholarships are its highest awards offered to college students. The Endowment now provides four scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $3,000, including the inaugural Hoover & Strong scholarship for a graduate student designing high quality production jewelry. At least one scholarship each year goes to an undergraduate student, with undergraduate work judged separately from the graduate work.
From a pool of 69 applications this year from trade school, undergraduate and graduate students, the committee selected one Hoover and Strong Scholarship and three SNAG scholarship recipients.
The Hoover & Strong scholarship has been awarded to Heejin Hwang, graduate student at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. The three SNAG Endowment scholarships go to Bifei Cao, graduate student at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, M. Anne Kilborn, graduate student at Ball State University, and Emily Eversgerd, undergraduate student at East Tennessee State University. The jurors were metalsmith and digital sculptor Michael Gayk, jeweler Bradley Nichols and blacksmith John Rais.

Contemporary Judaica in Metalsmith
The article, "Post-Ethnic: Judaica Today" in the current issue of Metalsmith has drawn a lot of attention from The Jewish Museum (NYC) and the American Guild of Judaica Artists, among others.
The article features the work of many artists including Nimrod Vardi, Fred Fenster, Anika Smulovitz, and Harriete Estel Berman.

"Geography" Exhibition Catalogs Are Still Available
As part of SNAG's 40th annual conference, recently held in Seattle, Art Jewelry Forum organized "Geography," an exhibition of contemporary jewelry. The 80 page exhibition catalog was very popular and sold out in Seattle but can still be purchased online at Blurb.com for $24.95.
The work by 53 artists featured in "Geography" reflects the global nature of the contemporary jewelry field and the different ways jewelers react to their environment.
