The 2011 Exhibition in Print "FRESH" Artists | | This year we received 433 entries to be considered for the Metalsmith Exhibition in Print. Jurors Lola Brooks and Cindi Strauss selected images by 30 artists. Consistent with the theme, this year's edition features the work of many artists who are new to Metalsmith. The essay will be an interview of the jurors by editor Suzanne Ramljak. The Exhibition in Print publishes August 12, and the list of selected artists is on our website.
Lola Brooks, jewelry designer and educator, has taught at the Rhode Island School of Design and the University of the Arts. She was recently the subject of a feature article in American Craft, and her work has previously been showcased in W, Vogue, Blackbook, and Metalsmith.
Cindi Strauss is Curator of Modern and Contemporary Decorative Arts and Design, at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, where she served as curator and catalogue author for Ornament as Art: Avant-Garde Jewelry from the Helen Williams Drutt Collection. Recently, at SNAG's Houston conference, Strauss gave the popular presentation "At the Crossroads of Trends and Traditions: Emerging American Jewelry Artists Today." |
Women's Jewelry Association Awards for Excellence | SNAG's Dxecutive Director Dana Singer has been nominated for a WJA Award for Excellence in the category of Marketing/Communications. The Women's Jewelry Association honors a number of outstanding women each year who have excelled at their jobs in the jewelry and watch industry -- and by doing so have advanced the cause of women in general. A banquet at Chelsea Piers will be the venue for these awards, during the JA New York show in July. |
