Abiding in the Secret Place

"He who dwells in the secret
place of the Most High
shall abide under the shadow of the
Almighty. I will
say of the Lord, "He is my refuge;
My God, in Him I will
trust." (Psalm 91:1-2 --NKJV
Where we live will, in many ways,
determine how
we live. There are various forms
and levels of
government with a range of
obligations and benefits
for each geographical location where
we may
choose to live.
This is true concerning
our 'spiritual address' as
well; where we 'live' spiritually,
will determine how we
live spiritually.
In Psalm 91:1 our Heavenly Father
reveals a
secret place (a spiritual abode),
under the shadowed
presence of His watch care,
protection and provision,
in which we can permanently 'abide',
if we choose
to.
"As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you;
abide in My love." (John 15:9 --NIV)
The word 'abide' means more than
just 'stop by'
or 'visit' or to check-in, then
check-out, as in a hotel or
motel. It means, locate, 'move-in',
put the couch in
the living room, the cabinet in the
dining room, the
fridge in the kitchen, and hang the
pictures on the
wall.

Three Titles for Our Heavenly Father

Talk about a safe harbor, my Bible
commentary tells
me that there are three titles for our
Heavenly Father in
the first two verses of Psalm 91; the
personal name of
The Lord (Yahweh); Elyon (The Most
High),
Shaddai (The Almighty), and
Elohim (here
meaning The Sublime God).
Man could never completely probe the
depths of
absolute love, boundless grace, and divine
power
represented
in those names, but we can get a hint of the
greatness
of our God through the 'eyes' of His own
words.
"To whom will you compare me?
Who is my
equal?" asks the Holy One. Look up into
the heavens.
Who created all the stars? He brings them
out like an
army, one after another, calling each by its
name.
Because of His great power and
incomparable
strength, not a single one is missing."
(Isaiah 40:25-
26 --NLT)
Astronomers, for many years have
claimed that
there are over 40 sextillion
[40,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 or, for
you math
folks, 4.0E+22] stars in the universe. By
comparison,
there are approximately 500,000 entries in
the
Webster's Unabridged Dictionary. If every
one of
those stars were named, there would be
enough
names to fill approximately 80 quadrillion
[80,000,000,000,000,000 or 8.0E+16]
books of that
size. To understand that our God has
created all these
stars and calls them each by name is
simply beyond
our comprehension-, yet simply, true.
To understand the amazing fact that He
has given
to you and I a 'secret place', under His very
shadow in
which to dwell-, where all hell itself cannot
harm us, is
also- simply-, true.
God's requirement for passage into
this secret
place, however, is that we come in through
the 'door'. "Jesus said to them-- "Most
assuredly I
say to you, I am the door-- If anyone enters
by Me, he
will be saved, and will go in and out and
find pasture.
The thief does not come except to steal,
and to kill,
and to destroy. I have come that (you) may
have life,
and that (you) may have it more
abundantly." (John
10:7-9 & 10 - NIV)
The invitation is open to all who will
come to Him
in Jesus' name, trust in Him and receive
the love and
watch care of His 'secret place'. If you
haven't done so
already, why not 'move in' today,
make 'Psalm 91' your
spiritual address, and while you're at it, why
not make
a quality decision to just go ahead
and 'abide' there
forever?
Here's how to do it.
