Honoring Fathers
A Message From Jack
The Little Boy That Follows Me
A careful man I want to be, a little youngster
follows me
I do not dare to go astray in fear he might go that
same way
I cannot once escape his eyes, and what he sees
me do he tries
Like me he says he wants to be--that little boy who
follows me
He thinks that I'm so big and fine--and believes
each single word of mine
Lord, the bad in me don't let him see, I wish that I
could stronger be
I must remember as through I go--the summer
sun or winter snow.
I'm molding for eternity--that little boy who follows
me

Airships: Ropes and Hope!

"I will--transform the Valley of Trouble into a
gateway of hope." (Hosea 2:15)
In the 1930's, the large German airship,
Hindenburg was being prepared for launching. About
a hundred men on the ground, using ropes attached
to the airship, were maneuvering it from its hangar.
Unexpectedly, a sudden updraft, or an abrupt change
in the atmosphere perhaps, caused the enormous
ship to lunge upward.
The entire crew gripped the ropes tightly putting
their full weight on them in an attempt to pull it
downward. It continued to rise, however, and most of
them, quickly realizing their efforts were futile,
released their grip and dropped safely to the
ground.
Some continued to hold on and were injured when
they fell. Still others, in 'frozen' panic, held tighter to
the ropes until they just could not hold on any longer
and fell to their tragic deaths.
One of them, however, continued holding-on
somehow, even as the airship gained more upward
motion and altitude. The observers from the ground
were amazed and began to wonder how he was able
to do it, and how much longer it would be until--the
inevitable happened. They chased and followed the
airship, and after several hours, as its hydrogen
resilience began to wane--the ship slowly
descended back to earth.
When they located the man that had hung from the
rope for so long they asked him how he did it, and he
calmly said, "As I kept going higher and higher, I
realized I would have to do something that would help
me hold on. So while gripping the rope tightly with one
hand - tied it around me with the other, and for
the next few hours, just enjoyed the view."

Hope Can Also Mean Rope

Did you know in Hebrew, the word, 'hope', can also
mean 'rope' (Hebrew 6960 (qavah); literally a cord
(or rope)? Just to know that should excite us
beyond words for that truth means when facing trials
that were sent to put us 'under', we can attach our
hope to the One who can deliver us safely over,
around or through any obstacle of the enemy--to the
ultimate victory that His Word promises (1 Cor 15:57).
But remember, we're not just hanging from a
floundering airship, were attached to God Himself,
and He is not merely able to deliver us but abundantly
able, bountifully and generously able, with an infinite
surplus of resources--and eternally able "to do what
He has promised."
The question then is not, "Can I attach my hope to
God and trust Him to deliver me--, but--will I?"
"(Abraham) contrary to hope, in hope believed---
He did not waver at the promise of God through
unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to
God, and being fully convinced that what He had
promised He was also able to perform." (Rom 4: 18,
20-21)
