A King... on a Donkey?
“The huge crowd–broke off palm branches and
went out to meet Him. And they cheered: Hosanna!
Blessed is He who comes in God's name! Yes! The
King of Israel! Jesus got a young donkey and rode it,
just as the Scripture (said).” (John 12:12-14 –MSG)
Ever wonder about the symbolic nature
represented in Jesus riding into Jerusalem on a
donkey?
Historians of Jewish culture have pointed out that
in ancient times Kings were often inaugurated by
riding on a donkey with a large entourage of people
following along behind them shouting, “Long live the
King!” This was likely one way of expressing
confidence in the new and soon-to-be-appointed King
just prior to his coronation.

“See how your king comes, riding a donkey's colt.”
(John 12:15 –MSG)
Jesus’ coronation ceremony, however, would be
a ‘staged’ Roman Tribunal, the Crown, a twisted band
of thorns, the Throne, a cruel and torturous wooden
cross, and His Kingdom, a fallen World. Totally
innocent of any sin, He would be condemned and
willingly die a merciless death, on a dark Friday
afternoon, for all the sins of mankind, including those
of His very persecutors.
But early in Sunday morning glory, Jesus was
eternally ‘inaugurated’. While earthly kings live, rein
and die, Jesus died, arose, lives and reins–
forevermore! He victoriously emptied the tomb, coming
forth as Conquering King, over sin, sickness, lack,
death and hell, and the source of supply for
every ‘need’ mankind will ever have, including an
eternal home in Heaven, to all who will simply believe
and accept Him as their Savior and Lord.
These truths mean that we don’t have to ask
Jesus to “come and save us,” or, “come and heal us,”
or, “come and meet” whatever need we face. He did
all of that, for once, and for all, and forever––2,000
years ago, and doesn’t have to do it again. We simply
must reach out, in faith, and receive the supply He
lovingly provided for each one, as though each one,
were the only one!

Listen: “As a priest, Christ made a single
sacrifice for sins, and that was it! Then he sat down
right beside God and waited for his enemies to cave
in. It was a perfect sacrifice by a perfect person to
perfect some very imperfect people. By that single
offering, he did everything that needed to be done for
everyone who takes part in the purifying process. The
Holy Spirit confirms this.” (Heb 10: 12-15 –MSG)
Yes, when He was on that donkey, we were on His
heart.

Missionary Vehicle Update!
As reported last month, the Dalton family, JSMI's
missionaries in Kenya, purchased the Pajero. To
pay off the balance of $8,500, we needed 17 people to
pledge just $100.00 a month for five months.
One of our supporters has already donated
$100.00 and pledged an additional $100.00 per
month for five months. Here's your opportunity to
become part of this ministry and help us continue our
work in Kenya. Won't you become one of the
remaining 16 people to contribute just $100.00 per
month? All donations are tax deductible.

A Perspective on Priorities
Almost one third of the over 6.7 Billion people on
Earth have no electricity, one in six has no safe
drinking water, four people die of hunger every
minute.
Yet, last year 12.5 Billion dollars was spent on
video games and the domestic film industry grossed
9.13 Billion dollars.
In Kenya alone, 50% of the people live on less
than a dollar a day, more than 850 people die each
day from AIDS, which is also the leading cause of
orphaned children, HIV infections are at a record
high.
When you're asked how you helped, what will you
say?
