Revitalizing Church Libraries: So Many Books...So Little Time! Beth Lewis, President & CEO Augsburg Fortress
Recently, I had the pleasure of speaking at three worship services on "Generational Differences in the Church" and leading a Sunday morning adult forum on "Gutenberg to Google: Effective Use of Technology for Congregations" at Cross of Life Lutheran Church near Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I had a blast! What a dynamic congregation!
A few days after I was there, I received an email from one of their members who asked for advice on how to revitalize their congregational library and encourage people to use it...This made me realize that we needed to update our list of "essential titles for congregational libraries" published by Augsburg Fortress, Fortress Press and sparkhouse.

Removal of a Congregation
On Saturday, April 21, 2012 the Southeastern Iowa Synod Council removed St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Marion, from the roster of congregations of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
This difficult decision follows more than two years of consultation between St. Mark's and the Office of the Bishop, about which the council was regularly updated. The congregation is being served by a pastor of LCMC, a church body considered to promote separation (schismatic) from the ELCA.
A letter from Bishop Michael Burk and Vice President Martha Bonte to the St. Mark's congregation council concludes with:
"Even as we part, we wish you the best in your life together and we remain open to the possibility that one day we may again find ourselves serving side by side.
Jesus Christ is the source of our hope and our unity, and we remain confident in the Holy Spirit's power to bring healing and reconciliation."
