Greetings!
The pronunciation of pecan is a source of friendly dispute among
aficionados. Some people say [pə.ˈken], while others say [ˈpi. kaan].
Most Savannah natives pronounce the word properly as
"peh-kahn".
No matter how you say it they are still delicious. Especially when Chiquita prepares her Sugared Pecans.

Sugared Pecans

1/2 cup butter 2 egg whites 1-cup brown sugar 1-pound whole pecans
Melt butter in a glass baking pan in a
300-degree oven for 5 to 10 minutes. Meanwhile, beat egg whites until very
stiff. Gradually add brown sugar to the egg whites. Mix until thick and smooth.
Fold in pecans until all are coated with egg white mixture.
Drop by spoonfuls into melted butter and
bake. Turn and separate every 10 minutes for one hour or until brown. Cool in
pan.
