NGO DPI Executive Committee
December 6, 2007
Dear Friends, As the year 2007 draws to a close, we thank you all for your individual and collective generosity and wish to share with you our sense of accomplishment and anticipation. Year End Support Request
The NGO/DPI Executive Committee is moving into the
year 2008 with much to celebrate as it expands its
outreach by initiating public information projects,
organizing communication workshops and holding
special events for the global DPI NGO network it
represents at the United Nations.
As you know, the NGO/DPI Executive Committee partners with the UN Department of Public Information each year to bring the NGOs, Civil Society, the Private Sector, Governments and Academia together for a full exchange of views and actions on issues of primary concern to the United Nations. Your generosity in previous years has enabled us to provide eminent speakers, conference materials and special events at these annual conferences. This year your valuable contributions made a memorable occasion of the Annual DPI/NGO Conference on Climate Change held in New York from 5 to 7 September where a Declaration on Climate Change Threats was unanimously adopted that called for the implementation of an "NGO Framework for Action." We are now busy planning for the 61st NGO/DPI Conference which may be held outside UN Headquarters, as a consequence of the Capital Master Plan for the UN Premises, that will raise our global profile as a uniquely equipped body of the NGO community. Your participation in, and contribution for, that event will ensure its successful outcome. For the first time in its 60-year history, our Committee now has elected regional representatives from South Asia, Africa and South America as we continue to look for further representation from the Middle East and Central Europe. We expect them to assume the responsibility to make us more sensitive to the perspectives and concerns of the geographical regions they belong to and help us develop information materials that are of greater practical use to a civil society more actively engaged in promoting speedier attainment of UN's priority goals in a fast changing world. We hope to disseminate these information materials to the farthest corners of the civil society, especially in areas that remain outside the reach of the latest revolution in information technology. We recognize that the global population today has the world's largest number of youth in history and they are better connected, better informed and healthier than their predecessors. In our effort to draw renewed vigor from their aspirations and energies, we are putting greater effort in reaching out to the youth and getting them more actively involved in our events and activities. We seek your co-operation in providing more outlets for and receiving wider feedback from the world's youth. To serve the expanding needs of our growing NGO community and our new initiatives, we look once again towards you to consider adding a year-end donation to your ongoing commitment. Your tax-free contribution would be acknowledged appropriately to show our appreciation.
