Greetings,

August!  I've always thought of August as mid-summer (I'm convinced that summers were much longer when I was a kid).  Now though, local schools are getting ready to start next week.  As homeschoolers, that wouldn't have too much effect on us except for "the guys".  The guys are our summer work force, three of the nicest, most reliable teenagers you could ever meet.  Other years when summer help went back to school it left us with a huge gap.  Last year, our final group of chickens wasn't  finished until mid-October.  That meant two whole months with a very reduced work force.  We were lucky to have an intern join us for part of that time, but we were still short staffed. This year though, in large part thanks to the guys, chicken production will be wrapping up about five weeks earlier.  The flock has done so well this year that we'll meet our production goal that far ahead of schedule!
That is, of course wonderful news.  It leaves us though with a unique opportunity.  We'll have more than two months after our busy summer production season before we can claim that it's time for our winter break!
To keep ourselves on track we've decided to post our To-Do list on our farm FaceBook notes page.  I figure that making it public will help keep us on track, as a bonus, we may end up with a few volunteers who can lend time or talent to a project.  If you're a fb'er "like" the farm and check out the list next week, and in the coming weeks watch for all the completed jobs!

Best,
Beth
Recipe of the Month

I'm more than happy to have a traditional BLT sandwich with some fresh lettuce & an heirloom tomato, but if you're looking for something a little fancier, try this cool twist on the classic!

Save Egg Cartons
Since we can't deliver our eggs in beautiful ceramic baskets like this one (made by member Phyllis Natanek) we use cartons.

We prefer to reuse cartons when we can.  It saves money, and it's good for the environment!
Save your clean egg cartons and bring them back with your silver bag (open them up and nest them to save space) and we'll be happy to use them
to deliver another dozen of our fantastic eggs!
Cold Bags
Please remember to bring back your bag!

We appreciate your help in returning & reusing these (costly) bags.
