Buddy's Formula for Coloring Paste
Buddy Rhodes Paste is typically used to create a slurry to fill in voids created by our pressed technique, or to fill in pin-holes created with any method. Different techniques (trowelled, pressed, polished) used to create the countertop can result in different shades of the finished product. If the Buddy Rhodes Paste is not exactly the color that you want, or if you choose to make the paste a custom or tweaked shade, here's a simple formula for making one cup of colored paste using our Bone White Paste. Bef ore casting your project, hold back a small amount of pigment to make your custom colored paste.
8 Tbs. (120 ml) Acrylic Additive + 1.5 Tsps (7.5 ml) BR Pigment + 1 Cup (Bone White Paste (235 ml)
Mix the 8 tablespoons of BR Acrylic Additive and the 1.5 teaspoons BR Pigment in a small bucket. Then add 1 Cup dry powder Bone White Paste. Mix well with a hand held drill with a whip attachment. You can add or subtract pigment to lighten or darken your color, or mix colors and make your own custom shade.
Tip: if you want to make a paste color that comes close to matching your concrete slab, wet the slab so you are matching wet-to-wet surfaces.

Get The Works: Advanced Pro Class to be led by Brandon Gore and Friends
For those of you for whom "Stronger, Lighter, and Thinner" sounds appealing, learn how to make concrete the GFRC way with Brandon Gore in October at Buddy Rhodes Studio in San Francisco. One of the first concrete artisans to lead workshops in glass fiber reinforced techniques (GFRC) for concrete and sink forming, and the Man of the Month on the cover of the latest Concrete Décor, Brandon will once again come to Buddy Rhodes Studio to lead an advanced workshop. Nick Relampagos, Matt Mondini, and Buddy will be joining Brandon to show students advanced pressing, toweling, even wet-casting to round out "The Works."
If you want to challenge yourself in a 3 and 1/2 day class, creating amazing free-form sculptural sinks and 3-dimensional constructions, this is a great opportunity to expand your craft. The October 19th - 22nd course is kept small and conducted with full hands-on student involvement. Days 1 and 2 will be dedicated to fabric forming. Day 3 will focus on spraying and casting the fabric form sink, as well as using non-spray techniques on 3 dimensional molds. On the last half-day, the class will de-mold and finish the sink and other projects cast in class.
This class is broken into two components: 2 Day Fabrication and 1 ˝ Day GFRC training. You can sign-up for a single component, however we encourage students to attend the class in its entirety to see projects progress from concept to completion.
Sign up online or call 415-431-8070 for questions - or just for the pleasure of speaking to a real person about this great upcoming class. All students will receive a $100 coupon for BR Concrete Products, as well as daily continental breakfast and lunch, a BR T-shirt, Certificate of Completion, and the BR Concrete Style No1 book. Tuition: $1855 for full 3.5 days (Oct.19-22); $1255 for 2 days of Fabric Forming (Oct.19-20); $700 for 1 ˝ days of GFRC casting (Oct 21-22). |
