Advanced class coming up
We have posted our new San Francisco class schedule. Some of you may be particularly interested to note that we have an advanced class scheduled for February 29-March 1st. Beto Esquivel will once again lead this class with Buddy and Matt, focusing on three- dimensional mold-making for fireplace surrounds, furniture and outdoor kitchens, making your own plaster edge forms, and using fiberglass molds with vertical packing of concrete. Experience tells us that after the World of Concrete, while the weather is still too cold in many parts of the country for working outdoors, our classes fill to capacity weeks before they occur. So, particularly this winter, and definitely for the advanced class, we advise you to book early. |
Concrete Countertop Conference
Buddy and Beto Enjoy the Crowds!
We had a great time in Charlotte at the Concrete Countertop Industry Conference. Beto demonstrated the pressed finish and making a bistro table to full houses each day. Buddy joined three of his colleagues who have been making countertops for ten years and more for a Q & A session. Most of the questions centered on how they got started in the business and what were turning points for them, with not many questions about actually making countertops. It was great to hear the stories from Mike Karmody, Kelly Carr and George Bishop, and of course Buddy liked having friends with him up on stage!

You may notice on our Class List that we have
a San Francisco workshop scheduled in August '08 on a Monday and Tuesday. That class is scheduled to coincide with the Concrete Countertop Institute Conference in Sacramento the week before. Some of you may want to plan on attending both, enjoying a weekend in between in our beautiful home town. |

A new Tip on Pasting From Buddy
It's easy to tweak the color of your paste to meet your needs. Whether you need a second batch to match your first, your retailer doesn't have the color you need, or you want to make a tone-on-tone pressed finish and the paste you have seems too contrasting, just add some liquid color from the jar you used to color your concrete - it works fine with the paste too. You can even start with white paste, wet it with the acrylic additive you'll use to make it a yogurt consistency, and pour in a little color to match your chosen hue, either saved from mixing or bought as an extra. Having extra on hand is a good idea, whether it's Mix or Color. Click for More Tips! |
